What can I say about the delectable Rowdy Yates? He's a lover, a fighter and a fallen angel, all in one sexy as hell package. You won't want to miss this prime specimen brought to his knees by a 110pound redheaded bartender bent on protecting him.
Damn Rowdy Yates! He comes on to bartender Avery Mullins on a daily basis, and every time she turns him down, the man goes home with someone else. Avery has her reasons for staying away from her sexy and charismatic boss, but she's finding it harder and harder to stick to her guns when Rowdy is exactly the type of man she wants in her bed.
Rowdy has wanted Avery since the moment he laid eyes on the fiery redhead, but the woman constantly turns him down, so he fills his nights with meaningless sex while picturing Avery doing all the deliciously naughty acts instead. She's different from all the other women. He actually likes and respects her, but he can't seem to stop using sex to help keep the long and lonely nights at bay. Avery tells Rowdy that she'll he ready for something with him when he proves he wants HER, not just sex. Things between them heat up when Rowdy is injured in a bar fight and Avery makes it her personal mission to help heal the bad boy with a heart of gold.
But when Avery's past comes back to haunt her, Rowdy's protective instincts roar to life. They all but move in together, and somehow it just feels...right to Rowdy. Can he keep her protected from her asshole ex while also protecting his own hardened heart from the woman he's starting to fall for?
GETTING ROWDY is book 3 in the Love Undercover series by the always awesome Lori Foster. You've gotta love a strong and sexy man who knows what he wants and goes after it, even if it means upsetting his own private demons. And what he wants is Avery in his bed…and his life. He pursues her relentlessly and with single minded focus, and she resists as long as she can, but she's no match for the delicious fallen angel.
Avery is a great heroine, she isn't afraid to tell Rowdy that she wants him, nor is she ashamed to want to be more than a notch on his bedpost. I love that she makes him work for it, and I love even more that he's willing to do so even when it goes against his nature. Avery is so honest and has so much love to give that she soothes Rowdy's broken soul and makes him want to be the man she thinks he is. Rowdy is such a damaged and suspicious man, but with a heart of pure gold. He's a fighter but always on the "right" side, protecting the weaker or wounded. The way his character develops from cynical man-whore to a man with strange yet deep feelings for a single woman was awesome to witness. The two of them together were a treat to read about, although I was surprised at the distinct lack of sex for the most part! Their chemistry was beyond enchanting, so I would've loved to have seen loads more intimate interaction between the two. That said, Rowdy's carnal musings are super sexy and I loved the flirtatious banter between them.
I also really enjoyed the mysterious Cannon Colter, a young man constantly showing up in Rowdy's life at the most stressful times. He's a terrific character and I'm hopeful we Lori Foster fans haven't seen the last of this sexy boxer! On the flip side, I have to admit that I wasn't in love with Rowdy's sister Pepper, though I understand why she acted standoffish and a tad bitchy throughout GETTING ROWDY. I haven't read her story, so I'll be looking to catch up on that one soon to gain some better insight into her attitude.
The danger element in GETTING ROWDY is excellent. It's always in the background of the couple's relationship, but it really comes to a head toward the end. Ms Foster always does a great job of incorporating tightly woven suspense into a highly sexually charged situation that puts the reader on edge for a multitude of reasons. This fantastic book will make you laugh, sigh and clench your teeth, and seriously, I don't know who that delectable man is on the cover, but I could not stop flipping back to stare at him while reading this book! He is exactly what I picture Rowdy to look like, and this model is absolutely scrumptious…just like the whole book!
