She shouldn't exist.
When Nila De Luca finds out she's the impossible offspring of a human father and a tiger shifter mother, she knows her life will never be the same. She refuses to be a pawn in tiger politics or to have her future dictated by other people's agendas. But before she can settle into her new life, she has to survive the vicious attacks of her mother's mate and the covetous grab of a crazy tiger determined to use her for his own purposes. Her only ally is a sexy tiger shifter, a man she wants more than any other before, and with a passion that calls to her animal side.
He can't have her.
Mitch Chernikov knows exactly how important Nila is to his people. She represents hope for their continued survival. His sole job is to keep her alive so she can fulfill that promise. He knows he won't be allowed to keep her for himself. That knowledge doesn't stop him from wanting her. Or from answering the passion that burns so fiercely between them. But to keep her, he'll have to fight for her. And it will be a fight to the death.

The title HERE THERE BE TIGERS, a novel by Kat Simons, appropriately alludes to a pirate-like plot – uncharted territory, damsels in distress, dangerous foes, fierce battles, and treacherous comrades. I give it 3 stars.
In the novel, Nila De Luca, a veterinarian with a big cat specialty, is abducted and suddenly thrust into a world where tiger shapeshifters not only exist, but some of whom want her dead. While Nila's father was human, unbeknownst to her, Nila's mother was a tiger shifter. This cross union enrages some in the tiger shifter community who call Nila an abomination that will destroy their species. These people, led by a man named Petrov, will do whatever it takes to kill Nila. The tiger shifters are already struggling as a species due to an incredibly low number of female shifters, and so there are some who look to Nila as hope for the species.
Mikhail "Mitch" Chernikov has been tasked by his grandmother, an elder on the tiger shifter council, to find and protect Nila. Both Nila and Mitch fail in their attempts to resist the sparks between them, and throughout their harrowing time on the run from Petrov and other dissidents in the tiger shifter community, their attraction turns to love.
Overall I enjoyed the story. I liked Nila's character who faced her crazy new world like a champ. I liked how her new world was revealed to her via dialogue between Mitch, Nila, and the other tigers who come to their aid. Sometimes I felt just as frustrated as Nila because nobody would just lay all the facts out there at once; everything came out in pieces. I liked the creepy twist in the plotline with Gregory and his house full of unmated tigers.
I felt like the attraction and romance between Nila and Mitch was believable, but certainly explicit enough for it to be suitable for mature audiences only. I could have used less repetitive narration of their inner struggles though, and more discussion of their escape strategy.
There are a couple parts that I took issue with. Nila took a job in Texas to help a big cat there give birth. Wouldn't that have been a great opportunity to put A LOT of space between Nila and Petrov AND been someplace unexpected for them to be? Also, as side notes, Nila didn't call the zoo to tell them that a family emergency would prevent her from showing. And what was the plan for Nila's luggage? Did someone go pick it up from the airport? Little details like this plague me because she has to think about them at some point, but there is no evidence of it.
I also had an issue with the pacing in the beginning, mostly because of the repetitive narration of their inner lustful struggles. I felt that part made the "on the run" part seem sluggish.
Overall, though, I would definitely recommend this book to any lover of shifter novels.
