Contemporary Romance, LGBTQ
Marlin is a transsexual who has undergone the hormone replacement therapy for becoming a woman, but her sex reassignment surgery has never taken place. Coming home one night, she is greeted by the sight of her man, Gabe, spread out on the bed just for her.
There was good and there was bad, some of it happy and some of it sad, but as they take a journey through their memories, they light up the old flames. Sex, tears, laughter and a wicked dose of romance show what loving is all about for Marlin and Gabe.

I actually had to reflect for a while before writing this review. It's not often that you read something that really affects you deeply, that gets you so emotional and raw but at the same time leaves you will a smile on your face. MEMORIES by Valentina Heart did this for me. It's an absolutely wonderful read, and I think that no matter what type of romances you prefer, you would love this story of love, loss, and overcoming odds.
MEMORIES is an interesting look into the lives of Marlin and Gabe. Marlin is a pre-op transsexual who is in a committed relationship with Gabe. Marlin comes home to find Gabe waiting for her in bed, and we experience their relationship, their pasts--both shared and separate, but most importantly their love through their memories and love-making.
Wow. There's not much more I can say than just...wow. This short story was amazing. Sensual but sweet, gut-wrenching but hopeful. I don't think I've ever gone on such an emotional roller coaster in such a short period of time. In less than 100 pages, we get more of a story, more of a LOVE story than some books achieve in five times this one's length.
Marlin is such a rich character. Dealing with a devastating past, almost to the end of her rope, she opens her heart to a man, and things turn around her. And while she attributes the improved outlook on life to Gabe, I think that after reading about her past, she is one of the strongest and most determined characters I've ever had the privilege to read about.
I loved the way this book was written. Exploring the relationship between Gabe and Marlin through their shared experiences gave me a better look into them, even in how differently they viewed what had happened between them. I could just imagine them in bed together talking about the past, whispering, and laughing. I felt like I was eavesdropping in on those private moments. I LOVED it!
MEMORIES is just an absolutely fantastic short read. The depth of the characters, the intense emotion of the story and unique storytelling made it one that I will remember for a long time. I recommend this to anyone who loves a good love story. I have never read anything by Valentina Heart before, but she's gained an instant fan!

How sad is it to be bullied and discarded based on your gender identity which conflicts against your biological sex? To be discarded by a father you loved? Unloved and abused by an angry mother?
I hurt for Marlin. His life before Gabe is devastating. The sheer cruelty people perpetrate against someone different than them just breaks my heart. Marlin is a sweet gentle female trapped in a man's body. I never understood the need to declare and stay within gender roles. In this story, Marlin is despised and ridiculed for being himself – a female with a penis. Gabe meets him on an important night. Without Gabe, Marlin would have never survived.
This story is romantic and smexy. The sex between the two is hot. The love between Gabe and Marlin is very apparent and lovely. This is a story of affirmation. The title is appropriate as this is a stroll through memory lane for the two of them. Some of the memories are painful. The retelling of the painful memories is cathartic in a way. The good recollections give warm fuzzies. This was a lovely anniversary celebration. I am moved enough that for my next anniversary, I'd like to try the same method to celebrate with my spouse. I recommend this book for those with an open mind and loves happy endings.
