WHEN WE TOUCH, the novella that started the Whiskey Creek series, has a cast of memorable characters.
Olivia Arnold is going back to Whiskey Creek to plan the wedding of her younger sister to her ex-boyfriend. She has to do it or people will think she hasn't forgiven her sister for stealing her boyfriend. However, she couldn't have known how hard it would be...or how much she would rely on Brandon, her ex-boyfriend's stepbrother, to help her through it...
This novella (free when I got it) caught my eye because I thought it would have lots of angst, plus I love the complicated relationship dynamics that was bound to ensue. However, it fell a bit short of my expectations as the story didn't flow and reads a bit patchy in areas.
Believe it or not, the most memorable character was Kyle, the cheating boyfriend. He wasn't a caricature; he showed remarkable depth and character, and I couldn't help but feel sorry for him. The female characters who will have their book-length stories in the series also show up a bit in this novella, as they are part of Kyle's close-knit group of friends. I'd love it if Ms Novak would chronicle Kyle's story in these later books.
