"If there is a book that you want to read, but it hasn't been written yet, you must be the one to write it."
Toni Morrison's great quote perfectly describes my state of mind during Labor Day weekend, 2009. After an idyllic reading summer that rekindled my love for romance, I knew just what I wanted to read--a love story between a sheltered, well-born girl and a young hero, not unlike the Artful Dodger from Dickens' Oliver Twist.
When I couldn't find a book that hit my sweet spot in quite the right way, I wrote one.
That was the beginning of my journey as an author, and almost seven years and four books later, I'm still following my quirky muse into different-land. In 2015, my debut contemporary sports romance series Red Hot Russians, was published by Carina Press. The first book in that series, Pairing Off is a 2016 Rita Finalist for Best First Book.
Writers are often advised to write what we know, and one of the most common questions I'm asked is whether I write about things I'm familiar with. The answer is ‘no.' My experience as a features writer turned me into a bit of a research geek, and I'd much rather write about what I'd like to know. There's something really satisfying about finding the great little details that bring an unfamiliar world to life.
Romance with a dash of different that offers a fun break from the everyday. Those are the stories I love to read…and the ones I love to tell. I hope you enjoy them just as much.
I love cooking, biking, spending time with family and friends.
