*standing up* Hi, I'm Angela Quarles and I'm a geek.
…and a bit of a dork, too.
So, I'm taking this as a STRENGTH and putting it into my writing. You've been forewarned.
If I were Linus in Peanuts, I'd have a book instead of a blanket. I've always been a big reader. In fact, my brother used to hide my book when we were little so I'd play with him. I also tried to create my own library and taped little self-made catalog numbers on their spines (Lord knows what system I used. I probably made it up). It took me a rather long time to figure out that, hey, maybe I should try my hand at this fiction writing thing. Now, I can't seem to stop myself.
I live in an historic house in the beautiful and quirky town of Mobile, AL, and enjoy the usual stuff like gardening, reading, hanging out, eating, drinking, chasing squirrels out of the walls and creating the occasional knitted scarf. I've lived in Brooklyn, Atlanta, Sarasota, as well as Kerava, Finland, and Vienna, Austria.
I love languages and have tried to learn various ones over the years, including French, German, Finnish, Gaelic, Russian, Spanish, and Norwegian. Emphasis on tried. The only ones I ever could count as being fluent in at one point were German and Finnish, but man, that was so long ago, I've lost both. My family or roommates could always tell I was on a new language kick, because little stickers would appear on objects all over the house with that language's name for it written on them.
I write under the pen name of Angela Quarles (Quarles being an old family name from waaaay back) and have a B.A. in Anthropology and International Studies with a minor in German from Emory University, and a Masters in Heritage Preservation from Georgia State University. I was an exchange student to Finland in high school and studied abroad in Vienna one summer in college.
I'm represented by Maura Kye-Casella at Don Congdon, Assoc.
