According to my school reports, I was a typical 'must try harder' child, always losing myself in daydreams of knights and magic and wonder instead of concentrating on the heady delights of long division and the periodic table.
I'm happy to say that not much has changed. I still spend more time away in the extraordinary realms of imagination than in the ordinary planes of reality. Only now I've learnt to put the gift to good use.
When I'm working on a book, my long suffering husband and children take my half-finished sentences and thousand yard stare in their stride. Although they're not so forbearing when it comes to the regularly empty fridge!
