Kyran Reese is a man in control. Driven when it comes to work, focused when it comes to play. From his office to the chalk circle of the bare-knuckle boxing ring, his only thought is to win. That thirst heightens when Dale Porter enters his life. His brother's assistant should be off limits, but her witty comments and sarcastic comebacks have him desperate to get her between the sheets.
When Dale agrees to Kyran's relationship stipulation of no labels she's sucked into a whirlwind of lust, money, and underground boxing. Dale fights her growing affection, trying to hide it when the world around them spirals out of control. All too soon she realizes she can't hide her true feelings any longer.
Has Kyran finally met his match? Could playing to win mean playing for keeps?

Wounds that need healing are just beneath the surface.
Absolutely blown away! I totally loved this book so much! That was one scorching hot read! I caught myself smiling so much as I read the bantering between Dale Porter and Kyran Reese; it's like they had known each other for years. She did not back down from his remarks, she did not say, "Yes Mr. Reese, No Mr. Reese", but she gave him a tongue lashing.
I don't even know where to start with this review. I know that my pulse was working double, triple overtime with the amount of sexual tension, teasing, and the times they jumped each other's bones. The sex was scorching hot; I'm surprised my kindle was not sizzling.
The insane attraction between Kyran and Dale is instant. That's when I knew that Dale was going to be someone that would speak her mind and did not care what her boss's brother said. Kyran could not stop thinking about her; her vanilla scent consumed him. He needed to fight at the Metro, he needed to pound on someone and let out his frustration, even if he was trying to distance himself from fighting bare knuckle. The pain, the violence that he inflicted on his opponents is what calmed him and made him sane again. But when he finished the first fight, the sight of her and what she was wearing made him react like a raging, jealous boyfriend. He never saw the punch coming.
Dale had just finished breaking up with her boyfriend after finding him in bed with her best friend. She left everything outside of their apartment and found this new job. There was this attraction with Kyran from the moment they meet and when they get tangled up, they know they have crossed the line. Only now they can't stop. As times goes on, this sex-only non-relationship is crossing into something else. Dale was becoming a drug to Kyran and he needed her constantly. Dale's feelings were also evolving into something more and she did not know how to stop it.
"Wow" is all I have to say for BENEATH THE SURFACE. This is my first read by M.A. Stacie and I have to say that this will definitely not be the last. I totally loved the characters; they seemed so real, with real problems. The pace of the story was perfect. The storyline was engaging and had me wanting more. The writing was brilliant and clear. The descriptions are vivid and detailed, then there are the sex scenes that are explicit, and I totally enjoyed that.
I loved that this story did not leave me hanging until the next one book. The epilogue was short and sweet, with a light at the end of the tunnel for Kyran and Dale, but I also had a sneak peek at how Taylor (Kyran's brother) was holding up.
This is a definite must read for any reader; it will wrap around your mind and not let go. I can't wait for book 2 to be published.
