I loved this book. A delightful reading experience and a promising start to the American Heiress in London series from Laura Lee Guhrke.
A penniless and desperate marquess decides to marry for money and finds a formidable foe in the matchmaker he approaches for help. Lady Belinda Featherstone had a bad experience in her own marriage to a fortune hunting scoundrel. Now she is determined to protect other wealthy American heiresses by making good matches for them. At first, she doesn't think very highly of Nicholas, our hero. She mistakenly believes him to be cut from the same cloth as her late husband, so she deliberately tries to thwart his plans. Never mind how much she is attracted to the handsome scoundrel.
They begin their relationship as nemeses, but Belinda soon glimpses beneath the carefree facade that Nicholas keeps hidden. A sizzling chemistry leads them into a passionate relationship that they both try to fight. Though Nicholas and Belinda fall in love, their path to a happy ending was quite tumultuous. The story contained a lot of personal conflict, as they both had to face some hard truths about themselves. They had to learn to compromise for love. Mostly they had to make changes in themselves and face the world straight on.
This novel was very well written, everything about it was perfect. It's about two people who start off at odds, fall in love and grow up. The main characters were compelling, with strong convictions. The story was entertaining, keeping the reader engaged in the book cover to cover.
I enjoyed every page of this passionate romance. I'm already looking forward to the next book in the series; loved the sneak peek. I'm giving this one 4 stars and recommending it as a must read to historical romance readers.
