Geek love around Christmastime? It doesn't get much better than that.
"Follow me, Software, and let me parse your code in comfort."
"I love it when you talk dirty. Lead on, Hardware."
Yeah, their pet names for each other were "Software" and "Hardware". So cute! Just so darn cute.
Shawn and Rob meet at work and then we fast-forward a few months into their relationship. Which totally worked for me. I like established couples and enjoy reading stories about them. There were a few important plot points that happened in the time gaps that were just mentioned in passing. I would have liked a bit more info because I feel like I could have gotten a better sense of their relationship. But, overall, the time jumps were well done.
Shawn and Rob were so loving and so supportive of each other. Rob had some struggles to overcome involving his family and I loved how Shawn was there for him no matter what. No matter how stubborn Rob was being, Shawn wasn't budging. He was going to be there for him and that was that. How he so selflessly took care of Rob, without being expected to, was just wonderful. And because of the time jumps, it felt more believable that he would go to such lengths for Rob.
The ending? Oh, that ending. The book was already great. But after their sweet, sappy, beautiful, makes-me-smile-with-sugary-glee Christmas together? Oh. My. It was perfect.
And then there was the geek-speak:
"Wouldn't be Christmas without you. After all, hardware's nothing without software."
Sweet, romantic, nerdy love. Sold!
