"Don't think of it as blackmail. Think of it as an alternative to prison. I'd much rather punish you myself."

Kayla Sutton faces a question no mother wants to face: what would you do to save your daughter? Broke and desperate, she siphons thousands from her employer to pay for her daughter's treatment, but when Gage Channing discovers her theft, she is shocked to learn that her boss has no intention of turning her over to the police. Instead he issues an ultimatum—give him her sexual submission, or go to jail.

Backed into a corner by a man with no shame, Kayla must find the strength to travel down the path of pain and pleasure. But when her past catches up to her, prompting a free fall into forbidden territory with a man she once loved, Kayla realizes nothing is black and white when everyone around her has secrets.

NOTE TO READERS: The Devil's Kiss is a dark romance with a BDSM edge that does NOT conform to safe, sane, and consensual practices. Includes explicit content and subject matter that may offend some readers. Intended for mature audiences. Includes the first 3 novellas originally released separately.

Finding a book with BDSM themes is much easier these days for erotica fans. Typically there is a brooding male character who dominates and/or spanks the submissive. However, Gemma James has broken the mold with THE DEVIL'S KISS TRILOGY. She takes the reader deep into the dark world of sadism in this gripping series.

Gage Channing follows the pattern as a rich bad boy, but he is a flawed character seemingly lacking any redeeming qualities. The story focuses around an ultimatum he issues to one of his employees, Kayla Sutton, who is caught siphoning money from the company to pay her daughter's medical bills. Kayla has to choose between going to jail or becoming Gage's slave. What ensues is a glimpse inside a relationship forged on pain and submission.

Ms. James has developed a cast of multi-faceted characters who struggle with basic human emotions, yet are drawn together. Add one of Kayla's old lovers into the mix and the stage is set for drama. The plot twists are unexpected, which enhances the draw of the series. Will Kayla go with a man who can guarantee her a happy life or will she embrace the man who lives on the dark side?

This series is especially attractive because it comes in a set. It is a story that simply demands to be read without interruptions. With that said, I didn't realize there was a fourth installment titled The Devil's Salvation. Although not part of my review package, there was no way I could walk away until the last line has been read--and price was not even a factor. The epilogue is indeed the icing on an already delicious cake.

Although this series may not appeal to readers used to the more traditional world of romance, Gemma James has created a relationship that explores all aspects of human interaction--the fine line between love and hate, pleasure and pain. For her flawless development of Gage and Kayla's story, I give her five stars...and a permanent place on my keeper shelf.
