Sensing unrest in the pack, Richard decides allowing the pack to settle is the safest thing for everyone. Unfortunately, the choice is taken from him when Crain asks him to come over and discuss more changes in pack dynamics, bringing him face to face with Abbott. Now, not only will Richard be fighting for a position in his new pack, he needs to fight for the trust of a man he's been hiding from for weeks. Can he and Abbott come to terms? Or will the unrest in their pack tear them apart?

UNWRAPPING THE ALPHA'S MATE is a satisfying return to the world of Kontra's Menagerie. Like all of Charlie Richards' books, the characters are fun, having depth and emotions. They are thoughtful and caring as well as stubborn and careless. The story is well-written, well-paced and the world is easy to visualize. And these stories are just fun to read.

In the previous story, Richard's brother has just found his mate in the new Alpha's brother. And with one whiff, Richard understands that the new Alpha, Abbott, is his mate. Richard is an Alpha in his own right, but has never wanted to lead. He's much more comfortable as an Enforcer. But if he's the Alpha's mate, how fair would it be for him to become an Enforcer? Fair or not, most of the pack would think that Richard was chosen because he is the Alpha's mate. So he and his brother do everything they can to keep Richard away from Abbott.

Abbott is going to choose an all new pack infrastructure for his reign as Alpha. He needs new Betas and new Enforcers. When he decides on a pack challenge to fill the positions, his brother and mate know that Richard needs to be there. When he finally meets Richard, he's not too happy to learn that his mate knew of their bond and did nothing to meet him prior to this. To top it off, there are also the bad guys challenging for the pack...

While a few of the books in this series can be read by themselves, you'll have a better understanding of the relationships and characters if you read them in order. So for me, these are not standalone stories. It is especially true in this case, since this story begins where the previous story ends.
