- Book 3 of The World of Nightwalkers
As a mercenary, Leo Alvarez has signed on for a lot—but he never signed on for his best friend becoming host to the soul of an ancient Egyptian pharaoh. Jackson is now inhabited by a Bodywalker, and Leo is forced to grapple with a realm of supernatural beings far more dangerous than anything he's ever encountered.
But when Jackson is wounded by an attack from a demon god, Leo must team up with another supernatural creature—a Night Angel—to save his friend from utter destruction. With skin as black as midnight, hair as white as snow, and a body of pure perfection, the Night Angel arouses a burning desire in Leo, even as he refuses to be intimidated by her power—or the power of those who would destroy his friend. An unusual alliance is forged, electrified by sexual temptation, and together the two must unite their strengths to bring down a supreme evil.

Another wonderful book from the amazing Jacquelyn Frank. FORSAKEN is the third book in her World of the Nightwalkers series. I have to say that this one is my favorite. It is such a great story, with a hero that I absolutely loved. The story came to life for me. It was exciting with a unique adventure and showed emotions like true friendship, loyalty and passion. I loved it.
The Leo Alvarez that we first met was a mercenary alpha dude. We learned things about his past and the bond of brotherhood that he shared with Jackson. Then in the second book he paid a high price for protecting his friends. Captured by the enemy, tortured beyond the realm of belief. When this story starts out, Leo has been irreparably damaged because of everything he has survived. He's kinda lost a part of himself, and he blames these supernatural creatures for everything he's lost. He can't trust them, feels like they've taken everything from him. He is having a hard time facing all the changes in his life. He has some choices to make.
Can he let go of his hate or will he lose his friends forever? He is in a very dark place when the story opens. Then Jackson is injured in an attack and Leo makes his choice. He will not abandon his family and vows to do what it takes to save his friend. Now comes the meat of this story. To save Jackson, Leo will have to overcome his prejudice and work with one of the supernatural creatures he hates so much. He teams up with Faith, a very mysterious and powerful Night Angel.
This Night Angel with skin as black as midnight, hair as white as snow, and a body of pure perfection. Leo wants this sensual creature, yet he is sickened at first by his desire. Faith was beautiful. She was pure and courageous. She forgave Leo so many times. Yet with each hurt, he broke her a little more.
The story had many twists and turns as Leo and Faith took their winding journey in the race to save Jackson. And in my opinion, their journey pulled Leo back from the dark abyss and saved his soul. He had to face his own demons and let go of his prejudices. It was hard for him and Ms Frank showed every aspect of his evolution. He pushed Faith away at every turn. Some parts of it were painful to read. What I took from the story was that it's about healing and redemption. I enjoyed taking that journey with Leo and Faith.
Like I've said, this is my favorite book in the series. I did wish that Ms Frank had spent more time on some aspects of the plot though. For one thing, I would've liked more depth in the Night Angels part of the story. There were a few things left hanging there. And while I liked Faith's character, I felt that she needed more sparkle. She didn't have as much fire in her as I would have liked. These are just small things that I felt the author could've explored a bit more. Otherwise, the writing was spot on, like always.
I enjoyed reading the book. I am giving it four stars and will be sure to recommend it to everyone. I look forward to the next book.
