BDSM, Fantasy Romance, GLBT
When the king commands former war hero Captain Jay Ghair to find him the perfect royal sex slave, Jay's quiet new life as a librarian is shattered. Jay discovers the boy he's looking for in Alix, a lowly miner and wannabe court scientist, whom Jay can't help but secretly adore. However, teaching the rebellious Alix to be a docile slave is difficult. Alix will behave for just one man, and it isn't the king. It's Jay.
Standing by while the king's treatment of Alix becomes cruel is torturous for Jay. He longs to return to his library, yet he can't bear to leave Alix, or his people, unprotected. To rescue Alix—and save the realm from the increasingly tyrannical king—Jay must confront the demons of his military past and take up the sword again. But his most important battle must be won through returning Alix's love and learning to master this bad slave who submits only for him.

I love slave fic and, after reading the blurb, I thought this would be perfect for me. However, parts of BAD SLAVE were perfect for me, and others, not so much.
Jay was retired from the military for some time. He now works as a librarian. Jay was called by the king to find him a new sex slave. Why? I don't know. It was never really explained. I know the king enjoyed Jay's ex-lover, so maybe he figured the guy had good taste. But other than that, I don't know why Jay was randomly chosen to find a sex slave. It seemed odd and out of place with what we knew of Jay.
Jay set out to find a slave. He came upon a miner, Alix. Alix signs on to be a slave pretty willingly. He's poor and he works hard for what little he has. So, why not? Alix was inherently a submissive, so his training wasn't all that unnatural for him when he was with Jay. There was some good sexual tension between the two before anything real happened. I did enjoy the romance between Jay and Alix. However, there were quite a few side stories all happening at once that distracted me from enjoying the chemistry and build up between the main couple.
The king asked for a sex slave, he sent Jay to go get him a new sex slave, so it can be assumed that the king would want to use the new sex slave. It didn't seem that he had that much interest in Alix, however, other than to watch him suffer. Why did he need a new slave for that? He could have used any that were already in his harem. Again, I'm not sure. Like I said, there were some aspects of that story that were distracting and even confusing at times. As a result, all these little things added up to lessening my enjoyment of this story.
For being a slave story, this was pretty light on the kink. There were a couple BDSM scenes and they were well done. I really liked the scenes and chemistry between Jay and Alix. They were great together, I just wish there was more of them.
If you're new to slave stories, this might be a good choice for you since it's light on the kink. It would be a nice and easy introduction to the genre.
