CONTEMPORARY NIGHTS is a compilation of five novels with storyline ranging from contemporary to a taste of the paranormal.

My favorite selection is "Grooming the Player" by Allie K. Adams. This book takes an incredibly nerdy guy (with hunk potential) and details his transformation at the hands of a woman. This makeover project comes complete with a steady dose of humor and plenty of passion.

The designation of best storyline goes to "The Irish Lover" by Lila Dubois. This selection focuses on the paranormal where ghostly apparitions intervene to prevent a couple from giving up on love. There's plenty of rich historical detail for anyone who enjoys tales of haunted Irish castles.

Hildie McQueen's "One Night in Vegas" shows plenty of potential, but there are some gaps in choreography that were distracting. As a reader, I have difficulty jumping from a bar scene to the bedroom without some sort of segue. I reread the passage several times because I was convinced the couple was stripping down in public. Aside from that kind of hiccup, the storyline was fun with exciting characters. After all, anything that happens in Vegas has to have an element of drama. The heat level for this selection is set pretty high.

"Avoiding Mr. Right" is C.J. Ellisson's contribution to the collection. It incorporates BDSM elements as a strong female character who can't seem to find a match gets put in the passenger seat. She may be hissing and spitting, but this dominant male knows what it takes to make her purr. The heat level is intense in this story.

The compilation ends with "Save the Last Dance for Me" by Jami Davenport. When a woman meets the man of her dreams while on vacation, she never expects she would find one with so many secrets.

While this set of books may not end up on my permanent keeper list, there was plenty of variety to keep me entertained.
