Hammer let Lane drive him away, but now he's determined to make Lane the one who almost got away.

Lane lost his legs while saving his unit overseas. It's been two years and he's doing his best to come to terms with things, including the fact that he dumped his lover to free the man up from being stuck with a gimp for the rest of his life. Luckily, Lane inherited his Gramps' cottage—it just needs some renovations to make it wheelchair friendly. He's determined to make the best of what he's got.

Hammer was one of the men Lane saved…and his lover while they were in the Army together. He let Lane drive him away back when the man first got hurt, but now he's hunting Lane, determined to make Lane the one who almost got away. Will Lane be able to see past his injuries far enough to realise Hammer's in it for the long haul?

I can't believe how much I adored this story right from the beginning.

Hammer. Oh, Hammer. He's 99% of the reason why I loved this story so much. He wanted his ex-lover back, so he went and got him. He went in there all alpha-like and got his man back in his bed. *swoon*

Lane had lost his legs and felt as though he couldn't be everything that Hammer deserved in a man. Never mind that he was in the middle of remodeling his house all on his own. Never mind that Hammer couldn't get enough of Lane's work ethic, independence and determination and thought it was sexy as all hell. Lane had a thick head and it took him some time to finally get it. Hammer wasn't leaving.

I just couldn't get enough of Hammer and his dedication to Lane. Hammer just pushed his way right back into Lane's life because that's where he thought he belonged. And he so belonged there. I could just feel all the feels going on. He would do things like carry Lane up the stairs, put his stuff away in Lane's room, talk about forever as if it's a sure thing. He did all of this, of course, without really talking to Lane about it. Because he just...belonged there with Lane. No questions asked.

This was a second chance romance and, even though I didn't get to read about their previous relationship, I could feel all the emotion that they felt and all that they meant to each other. The way this was written made me feel like I was right there with these guys even though I didn't read about what happened previously.

ALMOST is such a beautiful and loving romance. There was so much emotion packed into this short story and I just loved it.
