My name is Alana Devereaux. I enjoy the simple things in life, walks in the park, sky gazing, and ripping a demon's heart out through its chest. I am a demon slayer, the last of my kind, and I have been sent back through time to save your world. How am I doing so far? My time travel went haywire, all the signs I needed to stop the prophecy have passed, and the only way I can save my world is by keeping yours from ending. Then there's Gaelen, most days I want to deck him. He hides his true motives and if it was not for the intel he had, I would be rid of him. Any day in my life without a demon attack is a good day; I haven't had a whole lot of those lately. The only problem is, if I don't stop the Mutari, this world will burn.

Demons have overtaken the human world. The last defenses are falling, and there is only one way to save themselves now--go back to the beginning and prevent the breach from happening in the first place. But that is easier said than done.
Alana is a headstrong and magically talented soldier, raised by her father, a post apocalypse general, to put duty before desire. She is determined to succeed in her mission to save humanity and prevent the same disaster from occurring twice. Unfortunately for her, many of the records from that time were destroyed and everything she thought she knew is quickly coming into question.
Gaelen has been cast out of his realm for committing the sin of just having too much fun. After years trapped on Earth, fighting demons day after day, he's more than ready to leave the lustful mistakes of his relative youth behind. Willing to do just about anything to prove himself worthy of re-entry to his homeland, Gaelen is taken by surprise by the attraction he feels for Alana. His kind isn't able to mix with humans, but maybe there is more to Alana than meets the eye.
ANOINTED offers a unique story and intricately developed world for readers to discover. The first in a series, ANOINTED is also the first offering from author Maggie Mae Gallagher. Her exceptionally detailed writing style offers a well defined word picture of the world but also slows down the pace of the story and gets noticeably boggy in places. The romance between the main characters is slowly drawn out until all the passion and angst that has been simultaneously pulling them closer while driving them apart creates a perfect storm of sexual tension.
In addition to the occasional stumbles I previously mentioned, I also noted minor editing errors, both typical of new authors. Still, I enjoyed the reading experience overall and would recommend it to fans of paranormal and urban fantasy genres as I can only see Ms. Gallagher's work continuing to improve as she gains more experience in her chosen field.
