Gemmi Brooks was humiliated at the last family reunion when her boyfriend was found in bed with her cousin. With her self-esteem shaken, and to offset the pity party her family has been throwing in her honor, she invented the love of her life. Now the jig is up and she needs to find the boyfriend she's told her family she's been dating for the last 5 months.

Camden Haught, the sexy bachelor and bartender/owner of The Haught Spot, is always willing to help a woman in distress, so when the local heartthrob offers himself up to play the role as her boyfriend he can't understand why Gemmi's so resistant. As he tries to convince her he's the right one for the position he finds himself wanting more.

Both of them have reasons to keep their emotions and this farce of a relationship under wraps, but as this pretend relationship turns to real passion, there's a decision that has to be made. Should they take the risk to make this real or keep it as A Haught Date?

Not wanting to appear pathetic and still man-less at this year's family reunion, she'd decided to hire a male escort until her boss arranged to set her up with a nice guy who'd act as her boyfriend and then quietly disappear. So much for best laid plans!

When her boss True set Gemmi up to meet a stranger at a jazz bar, Gemmi wasn't surprised the guy was a no show. After all, Gemmi had a horrible track record with men and she was still recovering from her last boyfriend's betrayal when he hooked up with her man-eating cousin Rosalyn at last year's family reunion. And, since her family had persisted in setting Gemmi up on numerous pity dates, Gemmi simply hinted at having a new man in her life so she could get the endless succession of bad blind dates to stop. But this year's family reunion was fast approaching and there was no way Gemmi could show up without that elusive new boyfriend she'd hinted about. Really, another round of pity was just too much to bear thinking about!

Private, upstanding, but commitment-shy Camden Haught had a misguided but guilty conscience that drove him to act like a Boy Scout whenever he came across anyone in need. His friend True told him that her friend and employee Gemmi was a woman in need of a date for her family reunion, so Cam agreed to meet with Gemmi at a popular jazz bar so he could offer to squire her to her family reunion. Too bad True gave him some bad information that led to a mix-up that ended with a way too hot in the ladies' room encounter with Gemmi--the very woman the purposely single Cam was supposed to meet, help, and quietly walk away from.

Suddenly, two people who definitely weren't and still aren't looking for a relationship have a whole list of complications to address relating to family expectations, man-eaters, old ghosts, and a hotly burning attraction each must abandon for their own personal reasons. But there's always hope that people who get off to a bad start can change their minds if they can free themselves of the fears and the secrets that hold them back.

While the fake boyfriend/girlfriend scenario is a popular and widely used plot device in romance, up and coming author Leela Lou Dahlin adds a nice touch of surprise that showcases the very best character traits that her hero and heroine possess. It's these little unexpected surprises that lure the reader ever deeper into this quirky tale that mixes heartache with feelings of unworthiness and has both Camden and Gemmi releasing their hearts from protective custody and freeing themselves to strive for something more.

I thoroughly enjoyed this couple's story and avidly look forward to Ms. Dahlin's promise of more hot, Haught tales when she releases stories for Cam's brothers Alec and Beau.
