He's got a nagging gut instinct that she's "the one" for him. Yeah, she's looking for "the one" and she's got one big requirement--only a real cowboy complete with land and livestock will do.
At thirty, Chicago-based beverage company representative Harper Johansen felt her long-held dream of settling down and farming and ranching like her grandparents would slip away if she didn't meet the man of her dreams anytime soon. But as she traveled out West handing out cola and adult beverage samples at event venues, it seemed every man in Wrangler's, boots, and a cowboy hat was already sporting a wedding ring or was just a cowboy wanna-be that didn't actually farm or ranch for a living.
When Shaw Donahue met Harper Johansen leading up to the Fourth of July rodeo in Belle Fourche, South Dakota, he was struck by the notion that she was everything he was looking for in a woman. The curvy, petite redhead was friendly and professional on the job and her outgoing but reserved personality indicated she knew how to take care of herself and wasn't looking for some rich man to support her. Yet, as soon as Shaw told Harper he was currently working as a roughneck in the oil fields, he could feel Harper pushing against the growing attraction that had been steadily pulling them together.
Fighting the awareness and letting Shaw down easy with hints that he's not the man for her proves harder than Harper thought it would. And, Shaw, knowing Harper is pushing him away, can't seem to give up on her. Certainly, there's no point in Shaw telling Harper he's only roughneckin' until he can save enough money to buy livestock for the ranch he recently inherited, is there?
