GLBT, Paranormal Romance
Two very different men with a tumultuous history must overcome challenges from all sides and see past their society's rules to realize they are destined for one another.
Raised to become Alpha of the Yafenack pack, Samuel Goodwin dedicates his life to studying shifter laws, strengthening his body, and learning from his father. But despite his best efforts, Samuel can't relate to people, including those he's supposed to lead.
When Samuel meets Korban Keller, the son of a neighboring pack's Alpha, he reacts with emotion instead of intellect for the first time in his life. Resenting the other shifter for throwing him off-balance, Samuel first tries to intimidate Korban and then desperately avoids him. What he can't do is forget Korban's warm eyes, easy smile, and happy personality.
When a battle between their fathers ends tragically, Samuel struggles to lead his pack while Korban works to break through Samuel's emotional barriers. Two very different men with a tumultuous history must overcome challenges from all sides and see past their society's rules to realize they are destined for one another.

All work and no play makes Samuel the smart presumptive Alpha around. But it takes more than intelligence to be a good Alpha, and connecting with his pack on an emotional level is something that Samuel just doesn't understand, no matter how hard he tries.
As a child, Samuel was an old soul in a small body. Serious to a fault and quiet around others, he would rather study pack history than play with the other children in the pack. After all, it would be his responsibility to watch over them some day, so why not start now? The only person who seems to be able to draw Samuel out of his shell is Korban Keller, presumptive Alpha of the neighboring pack.
Korban, outgoing, boisterous and always smiling, seems delighted each time he sees Samuel. Determined to befriend the boy whose personality couldn't be more opposite than his own, Korban is frustrated by his seeming inability to break through Samuel's shell.
Years later, when tragedy strikes Samuel's pack and places Korban in his path once again, Samuel is disturbingly drawn to the patient yet charismatic man Korban has become. Will they be able to work together to solve Samuel's problems or will history repeat itself and drive them apart once again?
A well-written and steadily-paced storyline that spans over a decade of time, IN YOUR EYES is written mostly from Samuel's perspective. I would have loved to hear more of Korbin's side of the tale, as we are only given brief glimpses into his own growing up years. Although I believe that further development would have enhanced the story further, as it stands, I still loved the emotional depth of Samuel's character and his earnest nature as he struggles to become the best Alpha possible.
I would highly recommend IN YOUR EYES to fans of the Mates Series as well as newcomers to Cardeno C.'s storytelling. While third in a series, it tells a complete story and can also be read as a standalone.
