What you see isn't always what you get.
When ex-freedom fighter Richard buys a slave's freedom, he has a deal to offer. Being more inexperienced than he appears, he needs someone to teach him a few things. Sex for money and help is what he's proposing. Denny can always say no.
Denny agrees, and as they settle into their new life, they learn things about themselves and each other, as well as the nature of freedom and love.
But when are things ever that easy? Their world is suddenly shattered by a ghost from Richard's past. That's when Denny takes control, shows what he's made of and fulfils a need Richard didn't even know he had. It turns out neither are what they appear to be.

I stayed up waaayyyy too late reading WHAT YOU SEE. But I just had to read one more chapter. Just one more.
And I just. Couldn't. Stop.
Richard fights for slaves' right to be free. It's all he lives for, since his lover, Grady, has been killed. Grady was a slave so the relationship they had was never intimate. Now that Richard was thinking about entering a relationship for political purposes, he's worried about his bedroom skills. Or lack thereof.
When he bought the freedom of Denny, he decided to offer the newly freed guy a job. The job of teaching him the ways of seduction.
Now, the set-up was a little lame and, obviously, forces Denny and Richard to be intimate. It's the kind of convenient plot mechanism that I usually don't like. But I got over that real quick-like.
Denny's 'lessons' for Richard were great and off the charts hot. I liked that Richard was so new at this sex thing and it showed. He wasn't magically awesome in bed, it did take some coaching and I loved their bedroom banter.
Denny helped Richard heal in ways Richard didn't even know he needed. But the healing wasn't quick. Theirs was not an easy road. It was heartbreaking and definitely pulled more than a few tears from me. Richard had been through a lot, almost too much. Which is funny because Denny was the one that was a slave. I liked that it was a little different from what you'd expect.
Denny and Richard's relationship pulled me in right from the start and the development kept me engaged the entire time. I was also on the edge of my seat a few times. I just didn't know how everything would turn out. I knew it just had to because Denny and Richard were so great together, but the getting there was rough.
WHAT YOU SEE was definitely hot, very emotional, a little sweet and just a fantastic read.
