Paxton Mathis is committed to bachelorhood. One failed marriage was more than enough to remind him of the dangers of getting too close. He has his work on the ranch; he has his family. He has everything he needs.

Event planner Reese Jameson accepted the job at Shadow Maverick Ranch for one reason: to face her biggest regret. Paxton Mathis was her first love, her first everything. And ten years ago, after a night of unbridled passion, it all came crashing down.

The moment they see each other again, it's clear the years haven't doused the heat between them. On the contrary, their flames burn hotter than ever. Despite Paxton's attempts to keep things casual, old feelings emerge alongside a fierce hunger to keep Reese in his life forever. Reese willingly accepts Paxton's need to keep things casual, but she's worried her heart won't get the message.

With another round of heat reminiscent of the dog days of summer, Parker Kincade is back with another Shadow Maverick Ranch novella that's comparable to hot Georgia asphalt. Once again, it's time to saddle up and get your cowboy on!

Texas rancher Paxton Mathis gave up on happily ever after the day he caught his wife Tammy in the barn sandwiched between two ranch hands. It was easier to make himself emotionally unavailable and make it clear he had nothing to offer a woman long-term than to expect fidelity. He never even questioned that decision until Reese Jameson, the girl he'd let walk away a decade earlier, returned to Texas. He'd been Reese's first lover, and that long ago night had been hot and magical, until his reaction to the news of his best friend's tragic death lead Pax to say words that drove Reese out of his life. But Reese's re-entry into his life makes Pax's body react like it was only yesterday; yet, his heart resides behind a locked door he isn't even willing to open for a woman who's a mixture of sweetness and light with a dash of passion that makes his body burn.

A night of youthful passion had confirmed Paxton Mathis was Reese Jameson's ideal man, but she'd been too emotionally inexperienced to understand his pain when he'd pushed her away on a night that had been both the best and the worst of her life. The few other relationships she'd had all lacked something, so Reese had remained single. She only hoped that as the event planner for Pax's brother's wedding that she could finally tell Pax she was sorry for leaving all those years ago when he was trying to deal with the loss of his best friend. Unfortunately, running into Pax again only proves the old chemistry is still there, but sadly, while his body's available, his untrusting heart is now firmly locked away unless Reese can find the strength to break and enter in order to restore trust and love.

Having successfully mixed elements of office and cowboy romance in White Collar Cowboy, Parker Kincade is conquering the romance realm of cowboys and second chances with BORROWED COWBOY, the second novella in her Shadow Maverick Ranch series. But this time, it's a cowboy who can't let go a past betrayal up against the woman who never got over him. Exploring might have been, should have been, and what could be if given the chance, Ms. Kincade gets her readers all tangled up in emotional barbed wire as she expertly rekindles old flames and desires that never burned down to ash.

Brace yourself for another round of dialogue and description with a little grit and some passion on a couch that will make you crave homemade cookies!
