Action/Adventure Romance, Contemporary Romance, Erotic Romance

It's rule breaker Emily Foster's birthday, and like everyone at The Jungle Room, she just wants to get some action. Unfortunately, she stumbles on the wrong kind, witnessing a mob hit. To protect her, she's entered into the Witness Protection Program with by-the-book Special Agent Jake Ward as her chaperone.

When the location of their safe house is compromised, Jake stashes Emily deep in the Texas backwoods. The city-girl might be safe from the Mafia, but she has to contend with a psychotic rooster, a narcoleptic dog, crazy cowboys, and the danger of losing her heart to the one man she can't have.

Jake's as hot as he is infuriating, and she can't help but push all his buttons to loosen him up. Their mutual, sizzling sexual attraction poses a dilemma: Jake's determined to keep her safe and out of the wrong hands; she's determined to get into the right ones—his.

I can't say enough great things about this debut novel from the very talented Alison Bliss! Your emotions will take a roller coaster ride as you try to decide who's the most outrageous person in Texas and who deserves to be eaten by a pet 'gator.

All she wants for her birthday is a lil summin' summin' with the sexy kissing bandit who pretends to be her date to ward off an overzealous bar admirer, but instead she winds up in the witness protection program after inadvertently witnessing a mob hit. Now named Emily Foster, she's on the run with FBI Special Agent Jacob Ward, the previously mentioned kissing bandit, after her "safe" house ends up with a couple of dead hit men in it. The pair hole up at Jake's family's Texas bird farm pretending to be a couple, which would be A-OK with Emily...if only Jake would take her up on her repeated offers of sex!

Jake maintains that touching her could compromise the case he's building against the mob, but Emily pushes all of his buttons--good and bad--to the point where he's going insane! Desperation makes Emily insane too, as does stupid country living, roosters with fangs, hot cowboys on a mission to get missionary, and big boobed ex-girlfriends with boy names. Emily's unfiltered mouth screams fish out of water in this small Texas town, making for incredibly interesting days and some seriously sexy nights as she tries to get Jake to break his rules.

RULES OF PROTECTION is book one in the forthcoming Tangled in Texas series and can be read as a standalone. Right off the bat I absolutely LOATHED Emily! She was completely bipolar toward Jake, as well as desperate and childish and bitchy. Her constant temper tantrums drove me NUTS, but at some point I stopped hating her and started empathizing for the wild woman with the personality of an entitled princess. If you feel like you want to throw your ereader against the wall in annoyance, I beg you to STICK WITH THIS BOOK, I promise that you too will go from wanting to personally take the nutty chick to the hit man to identifying with her particular brand of crazy by the end.

The writing in RULES OF PROTECTION is amazing. I really had some severe reactions to the characters and the situations they find themselves in. Funny and poignant and erotic, this book will have you going from extreme annoyance at Emily's pathetic attempts at seduction to cheering for her and Jake to JUST DO IT ALREADY (talk about some fabulous sexual tension)!

The first person perspective (Emily's) was brilliant, as you get her outrageously insane perspective on events. You'll love the overall message about unconventional family and the strength of friendship too, as Jake finds his loyalties tested time and time again by the smart-ass woman he's trying to protect. With an underlying suspense that was tightly woven and not overdone, this book is one of my favorites of 2014 for sure.
