I'm not your typical girl. I've been running away from the memories that haunt me for so long that the shroud of depression has become my only comfort. Ignorant, I was content in the darkness... until Wes Michels offered to be my light.
I didn't know that time wasn't my ally, that every second that ticked pass was one closer to the end of something that was starting to mean the end of myself. He tried to warn me and promised me what he was able to offer, each moment as it came, but it would never be enough.
Sometimes you have to laugh to keep from crying. And when you think it's the end, the final curtain, sometimes that's only the beginning. Wes thought he could save me, but in giving me everything, he ruined me. Because after one kiss, one touch, I couldn't... I wouldn't ever be the same. And from that moment on, his heartbeat became my own.

If you ever wanted to read a romance novel that was all about the romance and love, one that is going to wrap itself around your heart, then this is the book for you.
When Kiersten literally runs into Weston Michels during college registration, she doesn't realize how much that one encounter will change her life forever. As someone who lost her parents just a few years ago, she has stopped really living life. Taking medication for her depression, she has slowly started to spiral further down into blackness, only going to college under (loving) threats from her uncle. Then Wes comes into her life and suddenly gives her something to live for.
Weston, Wes to his friends, finds himself intrigued by the new freshman who runs into him. Wes is the star quarterback for the college football team and Kiersten's RA. As a senior, he has a steadfast rule: He doesn't date freshmen. But as someone who recently lost his brother, and his mother before that, he understands loss. However, Wes is keeping a secret from everyone, a life and death secret that he doesn't want to share. What he does want is Kiersten, forever, but no one knows how long forever will be.
I cannot say enough good things about this book. It was one of the most emotional and well written romance novels I have ever read. You really feel the emotions of the characters, main and side, and you are pulled in to their feelings and they are pulled into your heart. The love that blossoms between Kiersten and Wes is so moving that you can almost feel it drift off the pages. This book had me hooked from the start. I wanted to know more about the characters with the turn of every page. Throughout this book I laughed and cried, I even went "aw", but I was always emotionally engaged. I cannot wait to read Toxic (Gabe's story) and Fearless (a further story on Kiersten and Wes), books 2 and 2.5 in this series. I can't wait to learn more about all of these characters, where they came from and how they got where they are.
