Nothing is more dangerous than falling in love. . . .
When Caleb Devereaux's younger sister is kidnapped, the scion of a powerful and wealthy family turns to an unlikely source for help: a beautiful and sensitive woman with a gift for finding answers others cannot. While Ramie can connect to victims and locate them by feeling their pain, her ability comes with a price. Every time she uses it, it costs her a piece of herself. Helping the infuriatingly attractive and impatient Caleb successfully find his sister nearly destroys her. Even though his sexual intensity draws her like a magnet, she needs to get as far away from him as she can.
Deeply remorseful for the pain he's caused, Caleb is determined to make things right. But just when he thinks Ramie's vanished forever, she reappears. She's in trouble and she needs his help. Now Caleb will risk everything to protect her—including his heart. . . .

Maya Banks gets the new Slow Burn series off to a good start with the first book, KEEP ME SAFE. This novel captured and held my interest from beginning to end. It ended up being way more than an okay read for this happy reader.
I loved the lead characters in this one. Our heroine, Ramie St. Clair's psychic gift has put her in a bad situation. She's damaged and on the run from a twisted psychopath who is determined to destroy her. Caleb Devereaux's sister, Tori, has been abducted and he is desperate to find her before it's too late. He tracks down Ramie who is hiding out from her stalker, and stubbornly forces her to help him. Then he witnesses firsthand how much it hurts when she uses her gift. The thing is that while he feels bad for Ramie, Caleb still wouldn't change anything he's done to help find his sister. He promises to come back to help Ramie later on only to find that she has disappeared when he returns.
Fast forward a year later and Ramie is in even more trouble. She's almost broken, her resources have run out and her stalker has gotten too close. So she does the only thing she can and finally calls Caleb for help. Of course, Caleb is only too happy to offer his protection, but will it be enough?
This book had a lot to keep me interested. Like I said, I loved Ramie and Caleb. Both strong characters. Caleb in his fierce protectiveness of Ramie with all of his alpha male characteristics. Ramie in her innate goodness. Also, this is a Maya Banks story so they had great sexual chemistry. The plot had plenty of dramatic angst. It had a lot of conflict going on. Now I don't mind saying that I was disappointed in some of the characters and wondered why they would act that way. I wanted to smack Caleb's siblings for the way they acted toward Ramie after what she did for them. The entire cast of characters was outstanding though. Even the villain who surprisingly got to have his own POV instead of being one of those flat characters that you perceive as more filler than anything.
Another thing that stood out about this story was the suspense and the paranormal element. It was riveting and took quite a twist that surprised me. Could my infatuation for Caleb come back from that? Yes, I found that it could, even as it kept me on the edge trying to guess what would happen next. I just wish that Ms. Banks hadn't given so much away by about the halfway mark. Still, there was absolutely no freakin' way I could've ever guessed how things went down. I was totally gobsmacked!
Lastly, since this is a Maya Banks novel, the writing was, as always, excellent. I enjoyed every page and already needing to read the next book in the series. I'll give this one four flying stars!
