Paranormal Romance, Vamps & Shifters Romance
New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh's exhilarating world of shapeshifters and psychics is "paranormal romance at its best" (Publishers Weekly). Now comes the story of an alpha wolf named Hawke used to getting exactly what he wants--and of the only woman who dares tangle with him.
Since the moment of her defection from the PsyNet and into the SnowDancer wolf pack, Sienna Lauren has had one weakness. Hawke. Alpha and dangerous, he compels her to madness.
Hawke is used to walking alone, having lost the woman who would've been his mate long ago. But Sienna fascinates the primal heart of him, even as he tells himself she is far too young to handle the wild fury of the wolf.
Then Sienna changes the rules and suddenly, there is no more distance, only the most intimate of battles between two people who were never meant to meet. Yet as they strip away each other's secrets in a storm of raw emotion, they must also ready themselves for a far more vicious fight…
A deadly enemy is out to destroy SnowDancer, striking at everything they hold dear, but it is Sienna's darkest secret that may yet savage the pack that is her home…and the alpha who is its heartbeat…

Oh. My. Goodness. This has been the best paranormal romance I have ever had the privilege to read. I don't think I have ever read a series that has had this many books and just keeps getting better and better until the Psy-Changeling Series; and KISS OF SNOW is a book with no equal. I laughed, I cried, I wanted to throw the book across the room a few times, but overall, I was utterly entranced as I got to revisit Nalini Singh's unparalleled world and watch the fireworks between the most anticipated couple of the entire series!
This is the tenth book in the Psy-Changeling series, and it features the couple I've been wanting to read since the very beginning of the series...Hawke and Sienna. For those of you who don't know, Hawke is the alpha of the SnowDancer wolf changeling pack who are shifters in the futuristic Sierra Mountains of California. Sienna is one of the Psy, a race of humans who have conditioned their people to forego emotion in favor of logic using a type of mental condition called Silence.
Sienna's family defected from the Psy and Silence when she was sixteen, and they came to live with the SnowDancer pack. And she's wanted Hawke from the very instant they met. Hawke has fought the feelings that he's had for teenaged Sienna since they met as well, because she's too young and because he can't give her what she needs. His mate died when he was a child, and wolves only mate once in their life. So, to Hawke's thinking, he can't give Sienna what she wants and deserves--his heart.
I love Hawke and Sienna. They have been sniffing around each other so long, it's been killing me. Hawke is this stubbornly sexy, uber alpha wolf who has sacrificed everything for his pack. He loves and protects them all, and he feels that he's going to be alone forever. He has lovers, but they know the deal: this is not forever, just for now. He hates that he's attracted to Sienna, he feels that she's too young to be able to deal with what he has to offer and what he needs.
Sienna on the other hand is frustrated because she wants Hawke and he treats her like a little girl. Watching Hawke finally come to terms with his feelings was sometimes funny and sometimes just painful, because the man is bull-headed. And when they finally got together...EXPLOSIVE. I felt like my eyebrows were going to be singed off.
Besides the fantastic main characters, we get to see a lot of previous characters from the other books, such as Lucas and Sasha, Kit, Indigo, Drew, Brenna, Judd and Riley just to name a few. These packs are really big families, so it's nice to catch up with previous couples to see how they've been doing since their mating. And it was extremely comical watching them all get into Hawke's business. I'm sure you can imagine how much he liked that.
The world building in this book is in a word...phenomenal. Set in futuristic San Francisco and the surrounding area, the way the book is written draws such a vivid picture it's as if I am right there. From the hovercraft type cars to the eco-friendly fireplaces, the attention to detail is such that I feel that I am seeing it all in my mind as I'm reading.
This book has a lot of action and suspense. It moves the story along with respect to the war between the Psy and the Changelings that has been brewing over the last few books. There is a threat against the SnowDancer pack and they have to not only figure out who it is but how to stop them. All the while, Sienna is having trouble controlling her very strong powers because of her problems with Hawke. Watching it all unfold was so utterly engrossing I just could not put it down. It was most amazing watching Sienna come to grips with her powers and to find out exactly what those powers were since it's been such a closely guarded secret. All I can say is...WOW.
As you may have guessed, I have definitely rated this book 5 stars. We're treated to the amazing world-building that this series is known for, phenomenal characters, a fantastic plot, a couple with chemistry that is just off the charts, and a happily ever after that made my heart soar. I have been waiting for this book from almost beginning of the series, and all I can say is that it is DEFINITELY worth the wait. There are so many awesome aspects of this book I can't even begin to list them all. This has definitely been my most favorite book so far, and I KNOW I'm going to be reading this one again and again.

BOOK INTERVIEW on June 2011
Interview by Rho and Laura
Ms. Singh, thank you so much for allowing me the opportunity to ask you questions about your wonderful Psy-Changeling Series, the latest book in said series, KISS OF SNOW, and your work in general. I love this series, and it's such an honor to be able to do this.
So, if you don't mind, I'll just jump right in!
Q: The Psy-Changeling series is so original. I've never seen anything like it. How did you come up with the idea?
I've always loved shapeshifter stories - but I disagreed with how shifting was often portrayed as a painful or unwanted experience. I thought it would be fantastic to be able to shift into another form! I've also always been interested in psychic abilities like telepathy and psychometry, but one day, I wondered, "What if those abilities weren't a gift? What if they drove you mad? What would you do to survive?"
Those ideas about shapeshifters and psychic abilities, as well as a number of other things I'd been thinking about, came together in SLAVE TO SENSATION. I just sat down and wrote and my characters showed me the world.
Q: That's amazing! The worldbuilding for the series is so detailed and so fantastic that I can see it so vividly in my mind. What kind of research went into making it?
I tend to let my characters introduce me to their world - it's as if I step into the world with them, and see what they see, so for me, worldbuilding is a very organic process.
I do however, research factual things to ensure they're correct - for example, the distances between places, or scientific theories that are mentioned, and I also keep extensive continuity notes so that the details of the world are the same from book to book.
Q: I understand you have an overall series arc. Where are we now in KISS OF SNOW?
I see KISS OF SNOW as ending the first story arc and beginning the second.
Q: Wow, that sounds exciting. Please give us some insight into Sienna, the heroine in KISS OF SNOW. How was it like for her, a Psy, to live and grow up among the wolves? How has that influenced the woman she's become?
I think she's become stronger as a result of everything she's been through, including the sudden move from the PsyNet to the SnowDancer den. I won't say much more as Sienna's past and her emotional development is part of the storyline of KISS OF SNOW, and I don't want to spoil the book for readers, but you definitely get a much deeper insight into her character.
Q: What about Hawke? What makes him a drool worthy hero, and how has his past shaped him to be the changeling that he is now?
Hawke's past is also explored in depth in KISS OF SNOW, so you'll get to see the forces that have formed him into the tough, strong alpha he is today. As for drool worthy, he's sexy, dangerous, wickedly intelligent and playful...what's not to love?! ;-)
Q: With Hawke and Sienna, there has been some concern previously about their age difference. How did you come to the decision to give them their story now?
Hawke and Sienna struck sparks off each other from the instant they stepped onto the page together - I knew that trying to pair either of them up with anyone else would be futile, and grossly unfair to the power of what lay between them. Their chemistry, both emotional and physical, was too powerful, too visceral.
As for why now - it just felt right. They were ready.
Q: What's the most romantic thing Hawke has said to Sienna?
You'll have to read KISS OF SNOW to find out!
Q: What's your favorite scene of the two of them?
One of my favorite scenes is where they play a game in the forest in KISS OF SNOW. Keep an eye out for it - it's a fun one!
Q: The couples in the series have been utterly perfect for each other. What do you look for in each person that makes the couple such a great match?
The chemistry between each couple is usually apparent to me straight away - it's very instinctive.
Q: Who has been your favorite couple so far and why?
I can never answer this question! I love each and every couple.
Q: Please give us a sneak peak into what's next for this fantastic series.
The next book will feature a SnowDancer lieutenant as the hero. His heroine is also a changeling. While I've just started drafting this book, I believe the Arrows, in particular, Aden, will play a strong role, too.
Q: What else do we have to look forward to reading from you this year?
My next release is ARCHANGEL'S BLADE (September), featuring the dark and sinfully sexy vampire, Dmitri. After that, I have a novella in the ANGELS OF DARKNESS anthology (October).
And in December, I have LORD OF THE ABYSS, the final book in a four book series that I'm doing with authors Gena Showalter, Jessica Andersen and Jill Monroe.
Rho: Ms. Singh, thank you, thank you, thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. You've made this fan-girl's year!
Thanks for the great interview!
