Contemporary Romance, Mainstream fiction
A heart-wrenching debut novel in the bestselling tradition of P.S. I Love You about a young woman with breast cancer who undertakes a mission to find a new wife for her husband before she passes away.
Twenty-seven-year-old Daisy already beat breast cancer three years ago. How can this be happening to her again?
On the eve of what was supposed to be a triumphant "Cancerversary" with her husband Jack to celebrate three years of being cancer-free, Daisy suffers a devastating blow: her doctor tells her that the cancer is back, but this time it's an aggressive stage four diagnosis. She may have as few as four months left to live. Death is a frightening prospect—but not because she's afraid for herself. She's terrified of what will happen to her brilliant but otherwise charmingly helpless husband when she's no longer there to take care of him. It's this fear that keeps her up at night, until she stumbles on the solution: she has to find him another wife.
With a singular determination, Daisy scouts local parks and coffee shops and online dating sites looking for Jack's perfect match. But the further she gets on her quest, the more she questions the sanity of her plan. As the thought of her husband with another woman becomes all too real, Daisy's forced to decide what's more important in the short amount of time she has left: her husband's happiness—or her own?

BEFORE I GO is a heartbreaking tearjerker written with humor and compassion, and with the ability to make you appreciate the little moments that sometimes pass us by.
Daisy's cancer has returned, and she's terrified, not for herself, but for her brilliant but charmingly hopeless husband Jack. Who will take care of him when she's gone? So she sets out to find a wife for him in the time she has left, only to divine what her heart really wants...
I don't normally read books like this, but the summary grabbed me. Set against the backdrop of love, the author treated the subject of death and dying with sensitivity and compassion, depicting Daisy's journey as she and her loved ones struggle to adjust to a new reality.
Daisy is a strong, gutsy heroine, who faced her condition head-on. Her love for her husband may have driven her down some weird paths, but you can't deny the intention was good. Yet, such an exercise only served to prove what ultimately was really in her heart. I have to admit I thought she was crazy at times with the decisions she's made, but I guess sometimes we have to go through a process before we see what we really want. Or don't want.
Jack, Daisy's husband, is a sweetheart, the kind of man we wish we have at our sides. Kayleigh, Daisy's best friend, too. In a way, I do envy Daisy; she's got the best people in the world beside her--people who love her unconditionally, who are there for her through the good and bad times.
Touching and emotional, BEFORE I GO shows us a glimpse of how it can be to be faced with our own mortality and the strength such an experience draws from us.
Have some tissues beside you when you read; you'll need them.
