It only takes a moment…

Cassidy Burke has the best of both worlds, a driven and successful husband and a wild, impulsive best friend. But after a decadent Mardi Gras party, Cassidy finds both men pulling away from her. Did the three of them awaken secret desires during a split-second of alcohol-fueled passion? Or is Mardi Gras a time when rules are meant to be broken without consequence?

Only one thing is for certain—the chill that's descended over her marriage, and her most important friendship, will soon turn into a deep freeze if she doesn't do something. And soon.

Light this flame at the scene of your greatest passion and all your desires will be yours.

The invitation stares out at her from the window of a French Quarter boutique. The store's owner claims to have no knowledge of the strange candle. But Cassidy can't resist its intoxicating scent or the challenge written across its label in elegant cursive. With the strike of a match and one tiny flame, she will call forth a supernatural being with the ultimate power—the power to unchain the heart, the power to remove the fear that stands between a person and their truest desires.

As a fan of the 1001 Dark Nights series, I have enjoyed every one of the offerings I've been fortunate enough to pick up, but THE FLAME takes the prize so far...I absolutely LOVED it.

Cassidy Burke and her husband Andrew shared a steamy night with her impulsive gay BFF Shane Cortland during Mardi Gras, leaving Cassidy confused and full of longing. She happens upon a mystical little candle shop with an intriguing proprietor in the French Quarter, soon finding herself given a candle which seems to contain the essence of the two men she loves. Even though Cassidy and Andrew are both terrified they've done something that has the potential to destroy their marriage, the power that this candle evokes brings something elemental out of them both. And poor Shane...he's always considered himself gay, Cassidy being the only woman he's ever felt an attraction to. Will he be able to open up his heart and body to both of them equally?

THE FLAME is a novella in the Desire Exchange series by Christopher Rice, and also a stand-alone book in the innovative and fun 1001 Dark Nights series featuring magical and mystical erotic stories by a variety of popular authors inspired by the classic The Arabian Nights tale.

The writing style was magical and it surrounds the reader in this kind of cloak of mysterious sensuality that makes you feel like an intimate observer. There was the perfect balance between sex and romance that seems to be pretty rare right now; authors gravitate toward either the smutty or the sensual, but Mr. Rice nailed the combination of them both in THE FLAME. The MM and MF and MMF elements were all done equally well, combining a loving familiarity and erotic yumminess.

I'm not a usual fan of paranormal stories, but I've found that all of the stories included in this 1001 Dark Nights series are incredibly well done and palpable for fans of pretty much any genre. THE FLAME in particular gave me more "other-worldliness" than paranormal, which just solidified it as my favorite in this series so far and also makes me want to pick up more from this awesome author.
