Born an orphan in Russia, Nashville Sound center Nickolai Glazov never knew the warmth of a big family. Luckily, at age six, his talent for hockey was discovered. Now, with a multitude of championship titles, a berth on the 2014 Russian Olympic team, and plenty of puck bunnies to warm his bed on cold nights, he's not wasting his energy crying over his lack of roots. Even if he wouldn't mind a special someone to come home to…
Artisan quilt maker Noel Verden, on the other hand, has so many roots they're threatening to strangle her. Her family depends on Noel for everything, from talking them through using the television remote to deciphering the telephone bill—all from 200 miles away.
She loves them, but wishes they were more self-sufficient and would stop trying to force her to close her quilt shop in Beauford, Tennessee, to move back home to Kentucky. If only she had the strength and power to stand up to her family…
A chance meeting and a snowy ice storm bring this unlikely pair together on the most enchanting day of the year, and a special connection flares between them. But when the ice melts, will the magic disappear too?

He's a big time hockey star that can help take his team to the Stanley Cup finals. She's a nondescript, quiet country mouse who owns a quilting store. A winter storm brought them together at Christmas, but will echoes from their pasts drive them apart?
Having been relegated to second best by her domineering mother, Noel Verden left Kentucky and found fulfillment in creating one of a kind quilts and running her quilting emporium, Piece by Piece, in Beauford Bend, Tennessee. With her burgeoning love for ice hockey, selling a quilt to Nashville Sound center Nickolai Glazov to gift to his lady friend was a memorable occasion, but Noel never expected to encounter the handsome Russian months later when icy weather forced her to delay her plans for Christmas travel. It was then that something magical happened, but Noel knew it wasn't destined to last.
As an orphaned boy in Russia, Nickolai Glazov's skill at hockey provided him an opportunity for a better life and the chance to make a living doing something he loved. Having grown up without home or family, Nickolai knew that the toll hockey took on his body could end his career at any time and, thus, he lived frugally in comparison to many of his Nashville Sound teammates. Nickolai found something in quiet, mild-mannered Noel Verden that filled him with a sense of contentment and homecoming and had him spending every spare moment with her in Beauford Bend. He'd like a future with Noel, but some things that haunt both of them can't seem to remain consigned to their pasts.
The writing duo that composes wonderful romances under the nom de plume Alicia Hunter Pace has produced yet another winner with this heartwarming novella that is a pure delight to read. Whether you like sports-themed romance, small town settings, family and tradition, or compelling characters, there's something for just about everyone in NICKOLAI'S NOEL. From Nickolai's profound appreciation of the Southern staples of Cracker Barrel and Goo Goo Clusters to Noel's Steel Magnolia strengths, to interesting details about ice hockey and quilting and quilts, there's just a lot to appreciate in this latest addition to the Beauford Bend romance series. I vow that most every reader will long for a Nickolai of their very own and is sure to eagerly await future visits to Beauford Bend.
