Book 1 of The Traveling Duet
Contemporary Romance, New Adult

I was ordinary. Nice. He was extraordinary. And he wasn't always nice.

Moody and difficult, brilliant and beautiful, Kes scared me and he protected me. He could be incredibly hurtful and incredibly thoughtful. He wasn't perfect, but he was perfect for me. He challenged me, he took me out of my safe little box and showed me the world could be magnificent. He was everything I wasn't.

Aimee Anderson is ten when the traveling carnival first comes to her nice little town. She doesn't expect her world to change so completely. But meeting Kestrel Donohue puts her life on a different path.

Even though she only sees him for the two weeks of the year when he passes through her home town, his friendship is the most important of her life. As a child's friendship grows to adult love, the choices become harder, and both Kes and Aimee realize that two weeks a year will never be enough.

5 "Magical Forbidden First Love Stars"! A new top favorite! If I could give this book 6 stars, I would. I could not put it down until I had read every treasured last word! This book brought back all the memories of first love, as if I was physically experiencing it again, electric charges and all! It then proceeded to shred my heart into a million pieces, only to reassemble it again, along with the renewed hope of forever conquering the hidden forces that always seem to plague and limit one's time with forbidden love...only to yet again leave you in a pit of neverending despair when the chasm between the two star crossed worlds once again opens up to seek its ugly revenge!

Aimee Anderson's world changed forever with her 10th birthday present: a trip to the carnival. That's where the small town girl meets Kestrel Donohue, a boy with a unique name and an extraordinary ability. That day he became her friend and opened up her world to a whole new host of seemingly magical possibilities.

Every year when the carnival came back in town, for its two week stint, Aimee and Kes were inseparable. These periods of intensive bonding, eventually transform a pivotal friendship into first time love. As their relationship blossoms into something more mature, however, the deep-seated prejudices maintained by Aimee's family and the realities of the two completely different worlds they come from, become harder and harder to merge. Eventually, tough choices must be made and the harsh cruelty of their star-crossed love takes its toll. If Aimee and Kes are willing to try to defy the odds, could there possibly be a HEA at the top of their carousel?

Oh my, what a ride! I finished this book a week and several books ago, and I still can't get these touching characters out of my mind! Jane Harvey-Berrick has earned a spot on my top favored authors list with this one-of-a-kind read, and I absolutely cannot wait to read Book 2, The Traveling Woman, due out this Spring, to learn what direction Aimee and Kes' relationship takes next!!
