How much is a life worth?
I grew up in Colombia, the daughter of a wealthy drug lord. I lived a life of extravagance, until one day a drug run went horribly wrong and everything came crashing down around us.
I was given away. A payment for a debt. The Gypsy Brothers Motorcycle Club became my new owners, and I did everything I could to survive.
But falling in love with the man who owned me wasn't part of the plan...

CARTEL combines two of my favorite types of romances: cartel and MC Romance and then wraps it all up in one incredibly steamy forbidden romance. From the very start we are treated to a fast paced, action intensive, gritty and raw "grey romance." In other words, while it could be classified as a "dark romance", as it deals with difficult subjects like the sex slave trade, and some interactions between the hero and heroine definitely push the envelope of what is morally acceptable, CARTEL is still nonetheless on the much more lighter side of the dark romance sub-genre.
For those of you who are wondering how this series fits in with Lili St. Germain's popular MC Romance Series, Gypsy Brothers, CARTEL is a prequel to that series. Accordingly, this series can be easily enjoyed, even if you have not yet had a chance to read the Gypsy Brothers Series.
What would you do to save your family? Mariana, the daughter of a lower level Colombian cartel member is faced with this precise quandary, when her father botches an important drug run. In exchange for saving the lives of her family, she gives hers in exchange. Having grown up in a privileged family in Colombia and being of a fiery spirit, nineteen year-old Mariana is completely unprepared for what it means to be owned.
Not only is she now the property of Emilio Ross, one of the most ruthless and feared drug lords and the head of the Il Sangue cartel, but she is also at the whim of Emilio's son, Dornan Ross, a legendary sadistic MC member, and the VP of the Gypsy Brothers. Fortunately for Mariana, the only person who secretly hates Emilio more than Mariana is Dornan.
Survival being the only goal, Mariana eventually begins resolving herself to her fate and doing what she must. Moreover, as Dornan and Mariana begin to bond over their blood and lust fueled connection, unwanted feelings cannot be denied, even if they are forbidden. Can Dornan possibly be Mariana's dark path to salvation?
CARTEL is just the beginning to what promises to be an erotic, twisted journey. I can't wait for Book 2, Kingpin, to see how Dornan and Mariana's relationship continues to evolve!

Absolute perfection! This book couldn't have been any better.
As a devoted follower of Lili St. Germain then I appreciate the magic she creates with her books. I was totally hooked on her Gypsy Brothers Series, and so I totally hated Dornan Ross. So I was a bit hesitant at reading this book. Yet I had to meet the man behind the monster and see what Ms. St. Germain could do with a character that evil. If it could be done then I was confident that she would see it done. I was right. She rocked this story and wrote it in a way that made me at least want to love that effed up man.
Mariana and Dornan. Their relationship wasn't sweet. It wasn't soft. It was gritty, emotional and painfully real. They didn't make love; the sex was needy and hard. They existed in a world that was dark and twisted, and sadly there was no way out for either of them. They were as close to the edge as they could get, both realizing that sooner or later it would come crashing down.
What can I say about Dornan Ross ? Well, from reading the Gypsy Brothers Serial Series, I already knew that this man would become a monster. Now I realize that the evil seed was there from the beginning. Created by a brilliant mind, he is an unforgettable character that feels no need to charm. He doesn't whisper soft words of love to Mariana. He is sexy, crude, and dominating as hell. And in this time, he was still trying to resist the monster inside. He felt pain for the things that were done, and thanks to the author, his pain bled right through the pages.
As for Mariana, I really felt for her. Her life hasn't been an easy one, and yet she sacrifices herself to save her family. She's lost a lot, and now finds herself in a bad situation. She's just trying to survive the best way she can. I saw her as a strong female that will surely grow stronger, as her captivity has already shown me a glimpse of her strength as she struggles to save herself. Not that she is totally innocent. Truth be told, Mariana and Dornan were so imperfect and flawed that it made them more real to me.
If you're looking for a dark, emotionally charged, beautifully written romance then you really need to give this one a try. Well done, Lili St. Germain! I am so looking forward to the next book in the Cartel Trilogy. It's Five Flying Stars from this happy reader!!!
