Fiercely independent and newly single mom Emmaline Hart has spent the last thirteen years putting everyone's needs before her own. Secretly afraid that her ex-husband's assertions that she's too uptight are right, Emma nonetheless keeps her life, and her emotions, firmly under control, fearful of getting hurt again. However, when she meets the dangerously attractive Beckett Black on a job assignment, the way his casual touch sends her pulse racing forces her to acknowledge her growing need to move beyond her fear. When Beckett offers her a job writing the memoir of his father, a renowned cancer researcher, Emma jumps at the career opportunity and the chance to get to know Beckett better.

Emma spends her days with the renowned doctor, who has spent his career studying a plant in the Amazon that has the potential to cure cancer, and her nights with Beckett, who slowly pushes past her fears and breaks down her barriers, introducing her to a passionate and forbidden love that surpasses her wildest fantasies. As the doctor's story of secrets and cover-ups unravels, so does Emmaline's view on everything she thought she knew about herself and the power of surrender.

FEARLESS by Brynley Bush is the story of a newly divorced single mother, Emmaline Hart, who has to rediscover her own life after having spent a decade and a half of catering to the needs of everyone around her. Not that she sees it in this way. The caring need and warmth is an integral part of her character but we are also aware how easily that part of her character can, and has, been used against her. Life has left her with a fierce need of independence and a hidden vulnerability which in no way diminishes her warmth. As a freelance writer she meets many people, among which is Dr Becket Black.

A practiced and well-regarded dominant, he sees Emmaline and wants her--in his bed and to ghostwrite his father's memoirs. What follows is a very sweet tale of a relationship developing and a woman learning to find her own self again. But it is also an incredibly hot story in which a man sees the woman he wants and pursues her--physically, mentally and emotionally.

The deep emotional bond and the enthralling reality of the characters are the definite strength of this story. The reader can not only see the characters but walk at their sides. We are drawn not only into their lives but into that of their families. The only drawback of the story are the missed chances--the lack of physical and sensual depth in some of the descriptions, the way some of the sex scenes could be developed further to let the reader truly feel what is going on.

No matter what, this is a very good book. It lets the character develop in a multifaceted fashion in which we not only come to feel for them but step into their skins. I definitely will read the other books in the series.
