Derek Brighton has become one of Dallas's finest detectives through a combination of discipline and obsession. Once he has a target in his sights, nothing can stop him. When he isn't solving homicides, he applies the same intensity to his playtime at Sanctum, a secretive BDSM club. Unfortunately, no amount of beautiful submissives can fill the hole that one woman left in his heart.
Karina Mills has a reputation for being reckless, and her clients appreciate her results. As a private investigator, she pursues her cases with nothing holding her back. In her personal life, Karina yearns for something different. Playing at Sanctum has been a safe way to find peace, but the one Dom who could truly master her heart is out of reach.
On the hunt for a killer, Derek enters a shadowy underworld only to find the woman he aches for is working the same case. Karina is searching for a missing girl and won't stop until she finds her. To get close to their prime suspect, they need to pose as a couple. But as their operation goes under the covers, unlikely partners become passionate lovers while the killer prepares to strike.

Derek wants the perfect submissive: beautiful and classy and sweet and demure. Karina's a tough chick who likes to be spanked, but who certainly won't be a doormat. The two have zero chance at something long-term. Or do they?
Derek Brighton has been outed. Pulled into a nasty serial murder case because of his knowledge of BDSM rope work, he wonders when his ass is going to get fired for being a perv. But when he finds out the next potential victim is the one woman he wants under his hand and in his bed--PI Karina Mills--he doesn't mind one bit that she knows his kinks, since hers are the same!
Karina has been working this case on her end, but when she's called in to help the Dallas police, she is put to work undercover as a sub to bait their guy…with the annoyingly sexy Derek as her Dom. Derek's not one to deny what he wants, and soon he has the delectably ornery sub on her knees and in his bed. But she's nothing like he thought he wanted, and she's damaged enough to know that he's too good for her. As they try to figure out who is killing submssives, they'll need to reconcile their pasts if they're to have a future.
DUNGEON GAMES is book 6.5 in the Masters and Mercenaries series, and also a stand-alone addition to the 1001 Dark Nights series featuring magical and mystical erotic stories by a variety of popular authors inspired by the classic The Arabian Nights tale. I absolutely adored this book. The humor was incredible, so sarcastic and self-deprecating, just the kind I love.
Derek was this OCD former Green Beret who has this picture of his life: perfect submissive wife who always looks pulled together and classy and who defers to him 24/7. He's wildly attracted to the unkempt and sloppy Karina, who has more balls in her pinkie than a lot of the cops he knows. He can't understand his obsession with the mouthy sub; she's nothing like what he wants, but he wants her nonetheless.
I even really liked Derek's ex-wife Maia, she was such an unrepentant bitch who asserted her dominance over every aspect of Derek's life. But their conversations while alone spoke to a deep, lifelong friendship that wouldn't be broken up by a divorce. And when he and Karina were together? Whew! They lit up the pages, their relationship was very pure and elemental and erotic. Even though her past was horrific, she came out the other side a terrific person with a deep need to help people. She was an excellent character and a reminder not to judge people based on their pasts. The sex was as fabulous as the suspense, lots of rope play and spanking and BDSM-lite, none of the hard stuff.
Bottom line: Great addition to the 1001 Dark Nights series and all around excellent read. I'm gonna need another fix from this sexy series!

I love everything about this series.
For me each one is better than the next.
I love the intrigue, I love the drama, I love the love stories. I love the BDSM elements which are very well written. I love how the other characters in the series show up.
Each couple has an individual story. Each couple comes together in their own unique way overcoming their own issues to heal together.
Lexie Blake is one of my favorite authors and for me she always does a great job of pulling me into a story from chapter one. Her books I can never put down. I enjoy the mystery in this series as much as the hot sex scenes and there are plenty of those in every one.
In this novella we meet Derek Brighton and Karina Mills again, there was a hint in the previous book of the sexual tension between these two. It carries over nicely into this novella. Karina is a tough as nails PI chick with a heart of gold and a few skeletons in her closet. She's not really looking for a permanent Dom but finds one in Derek Brighton and neither realize they are perfect for each other. When her life is threatened Derek is insistent that he is the only one who can protect her. Their love evolves as they "pretend" to be in a D/s relationship for the case they are both working on. Its clear right off that their feelings are deeper than just working together. Both of them have preconceived notions of what the other is really like as person until they get to know the real people they are. Highly recommend this book and this series.
