SUMMARY
Join Agents Emma Monroe and Zack Armstrong.
She protected him. He loved her.
They can trust one another with their lives, but what about their hearts?

Special Agent Emma Monroe is a Fallen Siren seeking redemption. Thousands of years ago, she was banished from Mount Olympus by Zeus and cursed by Demeter for failing to prevent the kidnapping of Persephone by Hades. Now she's working for the FBI, seeking salvation while searching for and finding the missing. Her partner, Zack Armstrong, is a werewolf with a grievance of his own.

The former Black Ops sniper who once carried out a string of questionable assignments is atoning for his past. Ironically, Zack's just discovered an important piece of his past has been magically wiped from his memory—an affair with Emma. It doesn't matter she used the spell to save his life, that's something he'll never know. With trust eroded and love overshadowed by betrayal the only thing holding them together is the job.

When the son of multi-billionaire Roger Maitlan is kidnapped and his babysitter murdered in cold blood, Emma and Zack travel to New York to work the case. They go undercover, infiltrating a playground of private dungeons where those who are rich and powerful can live out fantasies without consequence. What they find is a conspiracy born of a twisted mind and fueled by greed. The clock is ticking. Will Zack and Emma be able to find the missing boy and their way back to one another?

She serves a punishment for her failure to save a child. She has to save others in order to save herself and get redemption. She never wanted to hurt anyone but her love for Zach puts him in danger. It is better to keep her distance than to risk his life.

This is the third story featuring Emma on her quest for redemption. Captured: A Fallen Siren Prequel explains how Emma and Zach first met and became partners at the FBI investigating crimes. Cursed: A Fallen Siren Novel is the first story featuring their partnership. I did not read them first but do recommend you to check them out if you have not already done so. I was able to pick up the storyline without too much issue but I would like to learn more about their history. I think it would increase my enjoyment of the story.

Emma is a woman on a mission. She has to save others to make up for letting Persephone be kidnapped by Hades thousands of years ago. It is her curse and she never knows when it will be enough and she will go back to her old life and have her wings once again. She keeps things light and fun with the men in her life until Zach. Zach got into her heart and in order to save him, she had to take away his memories of their past. He is aware of some of their past now and is resentful of her choice.

Zach is former military and is also trying to make up for his past. He wants to save lives and not take them. He is not someone that lets others in easily so Emma's rejection really hurts him. He wants to push her away but when a friend needs their help, he agrees to work with her again. They both want to save a young boy that has been kidnapped from the home of his wealthy father. The father has a past with Zach and trusts him with very private information about his involvement with a woman who operates a business catering to the kinks of her wealthy clients. He believes she has taken his son in retaliation.

I enjoy the story much more when an author balances the romance and the suspense equally well. The romance and the kidnapping investigation move along at a steady pace and are well-developed storylines. It feels like the author took time to understand how a police investigation should go and added elements that give it a realistic feel. There is a good interaction with another local law enforcement officer that adds to the richness of the story.

It is clear from the very beginning that Emma and Zach have strong feelings for one another. They have complicated pasts and a complicated personal relationship. Emma hoped they could retain their professional relationship but Zach feels like he can't trust his partner after she removed his memories of their time together and refuses to disclose all the information. Emma would love to be casually involved with him but he won't accept anything less than her full commitment. There is a real power struggle between them that keeps it interesting.

The investigation forces them into very close company. One of my favorite parts was their infiltration of the private club. Working together brings them closer together and some of the resistance melts as they rely on one another to save this little boy's life. They have a great chemistry and the intensity burns high.

The best way to describe this is as a case file in the relationship between Emma and Zach. It starts soon after he has found out about his memories being taken and he is still very bitter and angry. It does not keep him from working with Emma when that could lead to saving a young boy's life. They still have amazing chemistry and working together keeps it alive. If you are just starting the series, I think you will want to read the other stories and be eager for when the next book is released that continues their story. It is a great story of two people that belong together and are trying to find a way to make peace with their feelings.
