In a mystical realm, Declan Farrell is the son of the Duke of Arlington. As Earl of Dungannon, Declan is a nobleman of the highest order, but at night he is the Gypsy, a highwayman who robs from his fellow nobleman to help save those less fortunate.
Lady Althea Standfield, daughter to the Duke of Oxmoor, is Declan's bethrothed. She wants him but he doesn't want to get married - to anyone. Plagued by demons that make him feel unworthy, he avoids Althea and continues his work as the Gypsy. Believing he can help Althea escape being forced into marriage, Declan arranges a convulted plan to get Althea alone that results in a night of passion and his arrest by his nemesis, Redcoat Captain Royce Penry.
To futher complicate matters, Declan has been 'tupping' his favorite inn-keeper's daughter, Bess. They are lovers and friends, but no more. She and her father know Declan's the Gypsy and they help him avoid the Redcoats.
Twists and turns take Althea, Delcan and Bess on a dangerous adventure that reveals what true friendship means, as well as true love.
