Book 10 of Masters of the Shadowlands
BDSM, Erotic Romance

A discharged Army Ranger, Ben considers his job as a BDSM club security guard to be an excellent hobby. He's never been tempted to join in. But everything changes when the notorious Mistress Anne inadvertently reveals the caring heart concealed beneath her Domme armor.

Now, he's set his sights on the beautiful Shadowlands Mistress. Maybe he'd considered himself vanilla, but she can put her stiletto on his chest any day, any time. He'll trust her delicate hands to hold his heart. And if she wants to whip his ass on the way to an outstanding climax, he's just fine with that too.

Sure, he knows she likes "pretty boy" slaves. And he's older. Craggy and rough. And six-five. Minor hindrances. The mission is a go.

As the sage artist Ludacris once said, "whips and chains, haaaandcuffs, smack a little booty up with my belt." You can't argue with that logic, so sit back and enjoy SERVICING THE TARGET.

A popular Domme at the Shadowlands BDSM club, Mistress Anne is used to commanding her pretty boys on a regular basis. But when Shadowlands security guard and former Army Ranger Ben Haugen sets his sights on her, Anne may be out of her league. Ben isn't used to taking no for an answer, and he's not about to start now…he wants Anne and doesn't mind getting on his knees for her if that's what it takes to make her happy. Anne doesn't do relationships, they only lead to heartache that she doesn't need from misogynistic, Neanderthal men who want to shelter and protect her from the big bad world. But somehow this huge rugged teddy bear has crashed through every one of her defenses, and for the first time, made her want MORE. Unfortunately, Ben's truly only a bedroom submissive. Will he ever be the right fit for a woman who only takes on hardcore slaves?

SERVICING THE TARGET is book 10 in the Masters of the Shadowlands Series and the first full-length novel in this series that I've read, as I'm not a superfan of the hardcore 24/7 D/s M/s lifestyle stories. That said, this story was well written, sweet and sinfully sexy, and I found myself enjoying it (even though, at 340 pages, it went on far FAR longer than was necessary).

Anne is one cold Domme, but she's got a heart of solid gold. Always there for her friends or even a nameless, faceless woman in need, Anne has recently noticed a side of herself that's a hell of a lot…softer…than the sadist she once was. Though he works security at a BDSM club, Ben is firmly in the vanilla zone…until he isn't. He wants Anne with a ferocity that surprises him, but he embraces it, along with a few of the masochistic tendencies that Anne looks for in a man. The two of them had this simmering, slow to boil chemistry that was delectable. Ben displayed the same patience with Anne as he would have as a seasoned sniper, never wavering from his goal and patiently rolling with the punches while keeping her in his sights. Anne was the wild animal in his crosshairs, a stunning and powerful lioness that could turn the tables at a moment's notice and at her leisure. Their relationship was poetic and beautiful, and I found Anne's personal growth lovely during this story.

My big beef was that the book seemed to drag on after awhile…it became tepid and just so-so while Anne and Ben went back and forth with their emotional turmoil. I found myself skimming pages that seemed like regurgitations of prior pages, and it ceased to hold my interest after a while. And as a side note, the term and protocol for "slaves" just rubs me wrong, no matter how hot those whips, chains and handcuffs are to read about.

Bottom Line: SERVICING THE TARGET was an overall good book, and certainly one that you can't miss if you're a fan of the über popular Masters of the Shadowlands Series.
