Chick-lit, Contemporary Romance
Beards, brothers, and bikers! Oh my!
Identical twins Beau and Duane Winston might share the same devastatingly handsome face, but where Beau is outgoing and sociable, Duane is broody and reserved. This is why Jessica James, recent college graduate and perpetual level headed good girl, has been in na´ve and unhealthy infatuation with Beau Winston for most of her life. His friendly smiles make her tongue-tied and weak-kneed, and she's never been able to move beyond her childhood crush. Whereas Duane and Jessica have always been adversaries. She can't stand him, and she's pretty sure he can't stand the sight of herů
But after a case of mistaken identity, Jessica finds herself in a massive confusion kerfuffle. Jessica James has spent her whole life paralyzed by the fantasy of Beau and her assumptions of Duane's disdain; therefore she's unprepared for the reality that is Duane's insatiable interest, as well as his hot hands and hot mouth and hotter looks. Not helping Jessica's muddled mind and good girl sensibilities, Duane seems to have gotten himself in trouble with the local biker gang.
Certainly, Beau's magic spell is broken. Yet when Jessica finds herself drawn to the man who was always her adversary, now more dangerous than ever, how much of her level-headed heart is she willing to risk?
Everyone in Green Valley, Tennessee knows that the six bearded Winston brothers have been imbued with an unfair share of charm and charismaů and are prone to mischief.
Truth or Beard is book #1 in the Winston Brother's series. Each book is a standalone, full length (120k words), contemporary romantic comedy novel, and follows the romantic exploits and adventures of one of the six Winston Brothers.

4.5 "You're My Dream" Stars! In a story that combines a number of my favorite romance sub-genres, Penny Reid manages to bring to life another touching romance. With a touch of MC romance flavor added to a splash of suspense and packaged altogether with a big dose of new adult, identity searching angst, TRUTH OR BEARD is a great romance and debut novel to the Winston Brothers Series.
The Winston Brothers Series is centered around the love lives of six bearded brothers from the mountains of Green Valley, Tennessee. As you can already tell from this first book in the series, each brother has his own unique attributes and challenges which will no doubt present plenty of material for entertaining exploits to come. Additionally, the lives of the Winston family is equally impacted by some of the social dynamics that affects this small town, including a local MC of the illegal variety to which their father (who has been anything but a father) belongs to.
TRUTH OR BEARD specifically tells the romantic tale of Duane Winston, one of the red-headed Winston twins. Duane and Beau are exact opposites, and therefore it is no surprise that the hometown girl that Duane fell in love with as a boy, Jessica James, has always seemed to have a crush on Beau. Perhaps the fact that Duane's feelings seemed to be unrequited should also not be too surprising given that Duane and Jessica spent their childhood years fighting like cats and dogs and taunting each other with practical jokes, whereas Beau and Jessica always seemed to get along.
So when a case of mistaken identity leads Jessica to question just what she feels for each brother, Duane sees his opportunity to properly woo and court Jessica, since he's decided she's his forever. Jessica, however, irrespective of the chemistry, has always had wanderlust dreams of discovering the world. Therefore any courting by either brother will necessarily have to be of the temporary variety since she plans on leaving Green Valley to explore the world just as soon as she can raise enough money.
With these diametrically opposed end goals, can Duane and Jessica possibly find a way to combine their dreams to accomplish a HEA? Moreover, as the local MC chapter sets its sights on recruiting the Winston twins, a fate which they have been fighting for a long time, the danger escalates, calling into question whether a man like Duane even deserves someone as good as Jessica James, the daughter of the local sheriff and sister to one of its deputies.
What a fantastic read! I particularly enjoyed Duane's old-fashioned sense of romance. That's such an unusual perspective in today's romance novels, particularly as it pertains to the hero, that it was a delightful change of tone.
What a great start to the Winston Bothers Series. Next up is Jethro's story, scheduled for release in 2016. I can't wait!
