A Subtle Breeze by Bailey Bradford
Book one in the Southern Spirits series
Ezekiel Matthers and Brendon Shanahan are about to find out that sometimes all it takes is a subtle breeze to shift the winds of fate.
Ezekiel Matthers is a reclusive man, forcing himself into the exile of his ranch after a violent assault left him wounded. While the scars on the outside have faded, the damage inside is much harder to conquer. Zeke resigns himself to a solitary existence, aside from his sister Enessa and, of course, his mama's occasional visits.
Brendon Shanahan has a very meddling cousin, Gloria, who is best buds with Enessa Matthers. When the two women convince Brendon that he should hook-up with the reclusive Zeke, a plan is hatched that sets a series of events into motion - with potentially deadly consequences.
Can Ezekiel conquer his fears and accept what Brendon is offering? Or will Brendon walk away, giving up on the love he has waited for? And will the visits from Zeke's mama - deceased for four years now - help the two men find their way to each other?
Only time will tell, and that may be the one thing the lovers don't have, because someone is out to destroy everything Zeke and Brendon hold dear - and this time, the bad guy just might succeed.

After a violent attack, Ezekiel "Zeke" Matthers exiled himself to his ranch and a solitary existence aside from his sister and his mama's occasional visits in this spellbinding paranormal romance.
Due to his meddling cousin, Brendon Shanahan is convinced he should hook up with the reclusive Zeke and the reader can't help but get drawn into the story as the plan sets off a series of events with potentially deadly consequences. The chemistry between Zeke and Brendon is an instant inferno of powerful passion, but the relationship will have to conquer not only Zeke's traumatized past but the terror of the present which causes some emotional turbulence that tugs at reader's hearts and refuses to let go. These strong, captivating characters quickly snare the reader's attention while the fast paced, smooth flowing plot keeps expectations high with lots of suspense, excitement, turmoil and romance.
Zeke has a small minded, deadly adversary that refuses to let Zeke have a happily ever after, which has tension and excitement building throughout the story as the attacks become more dangerous. But Zeke and Brendon does have a little spiritual help that also adds some cheerful fun to the romance as well. The story is well written and captures the very essence of the characters, the town and the spirits with vibrant intensity, which makes it easy for the reader to fall hook, line and sinker.
I was completely spellbound by Zeke and Brendon's story and completely outraged on their behalf…talk about evil, someone should take his enemies and ties them up in an anthill…for eternity. I can't wait for my next visit to the fascinating town of McKinton and its wonderful characters.
