Contemporary Romance, Paranormal Romance

In the wickedly funny spirit of bestselling authors Kerrelyn Sparks and Molly Harper, this sexy paranormal romance features an estate broker and a 600-year-old vampire out for revenge.

Lindsey Hughes loves antiques and couldn't be happier to make a living in the estate sale business. But when her assistant accidentally buys an entire estate without her approval, Lindsey is forced to clean up the mess herself.

Lindsey travels to the newly purchased, age-old house in Venice, Italy, and soon discovers more than she (never) bargained for. While digging through the hoarder's trove that fills every floor, she finds a secret staircase behind a wall that leads to a strange coffin…with an even stranger inhabitant.

Vampire Rand FitzWulf has been in his coffin for 600 years. But now that he's awake, he's ravenous, and there's a delicious-smelling woman with a rare blood type in his basement. Luckily, Lindsey has more to offer than blood: she agrees to travel throughout Europe with Rand to help him get revenge on the one who turned him. But as the unlikely pair grows closer, will the billionaire vampire be overtaken by his thirst for blood—or his thirst for love?

I can't say enough good things about this book! I certainly enjoyed it, but that hardly covers how much I truly adored Rand and Lindsey's story. This lighthearted paranormal romance was well crafted, entertaining and so much fun to read.

This plot was so amusing. Lindsey and her friend Gemma are treasure hunters who end up cleaning out an estate in Venice, Italy, where they accidentally discover a gorgeous vampire who's been obliviously sleeping for the last 600 years. Rand FitzWulf awakened to a very changed world which leads to some delightfully hilarious moments. He also realizes that both he and Lindsey are in danger from someone close to him. This story moved along nicely; it goes to a meet and great, drop off the adorable vampire, to a fight for their lives. Along the way Rand and Lindsey grow incredibly close and fall in love even when their situation seemed to be hopeless.

I loved how Jessica Sims was able to infuse so many emotions into this story. Along with an amazing romance came a humor that had me cackling out in laughter. I freaking loved that part! There was also a bit of action and a mystery with a couple of twists. My most favorite aspect was the characters and how I felt about them. Rand and Lindsey were wonderful. Rand was quite charming and sweet in his wonderment of the modern world. And it was easy to connect with Lindsey because of her snarky sense of humor and the way she was fearlessly devoted to the people she cared about.

BETWEEN A VAMP AND A HARD PLACE is a fantastic book that I didn't want to put down. I loved everything about it, but especially the distinctive humor and vibrant characters. Jessica Sims' writing style is refreshingly addictive and when I find an author like that, then I am a fan for life. So if you like paranormal romance that is actually fun to read, then this is the book for you, and I highly recommend giving it a try. I am giving this book Five Flying Stars!

I LOVED this book so much and could've kept reading Lindsay and Rand's story for another week and still want more!

As co-owner of an antique store, Lindsey Hughes is in a dry spell. She hasn't found anything worth putting up for sale...until her business partner Gemma decides to purchase the contents of a vacation home in Venice sight unseen. Lindsey isn't pleased that their entire savings was spent on something that wasn't a sure bet, but when she uncovers a secret room in the home and stumbles upon priceless artifacts that'll set the pair up for life, she's positively giddy. Until she spots the dead body. With a stake through his heart.

Sir Rand FitzWulf has been asleep since 1386, woken up by a woman who smells like the most delectable wine he can imagine. He must find out who betrayed him all those years ago, and he can't do that in this new, strange world without Lindsay's help. Lindsay's terrified, but also strangely turned on by the sexy and enigmatic centuries old vampire. And as they spend their nights together scouring Europe for answers, they'll find more than either bargained for.

BETWEEN A VAMP AND A HARD PLACE is the 5th offering in the Midnight Liaisons series and the first one I've read, but it won't be the last! This book was so fun, and so sexy, that I absolutely could not get enough! I found myself cracking up at Rand's revelations, "how is this water hot?! How does this box keep food cold!? What is this strange thing that shows moving pictures!?" It was written beautifully, and with such humor that I devoured all 374 pages in about 24 hours. The settings were written so vividly, partly because of Rand's sheer fascination with how much things had changed in 600+ years. The sex scenes were wildly erotic yet tasteful and full of adoration (and some blood sucking, natch).

I'm not one who typically enjoys vampire books, or paranormal reads at all really, but Lindsay and Rand were such a fabulous couple. Polar opposites, one medieval and one modern, one a warlord and one an antique dealer. But their connection was instantaneous and explosive. The ending was especially fabulous, with the crazy fight and repercussions just so unique and intriguing. I'll definitely be looking for more from Ms. Sims in the future (and will start at the beginning of the Midnight Liaisons series for sure).

Bottom Line: Even if you're not a huge fan of blood sucking books, you'll enjoy this funny and unique take on the genre.
