When looking through history books, it's clear that there is more to Texas in 1895 than just cowboys. Author Hebby Roman taps in to the railroad as the focal point of A HARD CANDY CHRISTMAS.
Abigail Kerr Sanford is the daughter of a railroad man, forced to live somewhat of a life of servitude because of her past. When the new sheriff seeks a room at her father's boarding house, Abby's life is turned upside down.
Clint Graham is a rancher who gets pushed into the sheriff's role in the midst of an argument between the ranchers and the railroad representatives. He's got a difficult past he is trying to bury. There's some definite chemistry between Clint and Abby, but no easy road to happiness.
This sweet romance provides a perfect opportunity to highlight the early railroad years when safety was still very much an issue for the workers. Rich and full of details, this is a poignant story about two people seeking happiness in the aftermath of heartbreak.
