Stage actress Christine Caspary couldn't care less about hockey, but when she first sees Joe Rutherford playing in a Barracudas game her mind goes to all sorts of dirty places. By happy chance, her work with Grant A Wish gives her an opportunity to meet him in the flesh.
Right winger Joe Rutherford saw Christine perform when the team went to see Chicago and was so taken with her, he secretly saw the show a second time, alone. When the gorgeous actress with spectacular legs contacts him out of the blue asking for a favor, it's a no-brainer.
Their chemistry is off the charts. Things heat up quickly and they can't keep their hands off each other. Soon they're hooking up whenever their busy schedules allow and having hot phone sex every night at midnight when they don't. But Joe's time in the hockey spotlight is fading, just as Christine's star begins to rise. When she gets her big break into a TV career, how will Joe take to being the arm candy for a change?

Can a rising starlet and a fading hockey star find common ground?
San Diego Barracudas hockey player Joe Rutherford can't believe his luck when he gets a call that theatre star Christine Caspary wants to meet him. Granted, her reasons for contacting him have more to do with a sick kid and the Grant a Wish program then sweaty nights between the sheets, but since he's been a fan of hers for years, he'll take her however he can get her. Joe is struck dumb by Christine…how can he get her to agree to go out with him?
Christine is also overwhelmed by Joe's innate alpha male personality and looks, she has a feeling that being with him will be something special. But it's tough when her tour and his game schedule are nowhere near coinciding. And when she gets a shot at her dream job just as Joe is nearing the end of his career, the two of them will have to navigate some serious bumps in the road if they have any chance of making this thing work.
UNDER THE SPOTLIGHT is the 4th offering in the In The Zone series by Ms. Willoughby and it's the first I've read in this series. I love me some hockey book boyfriends, however Joe just didn't do it for me. He and Christine had decent chemistry, but overall, he was a pretty dull and rather sappy dude. I did really like Christine though, her sassy attitude and nerves of steel were a breath of fresh air in this book. The sex between them was erotic, but it didn't really do it for me for some reason either, maybe because I didn't particularly swoon over Joe's character.
The storyline was just okay; it was about as exciting as Joe and lasted a hell of a lot longer than he did in bed. Ultimately this book was just okay for me, nothing earth shattering or world rocking, but I wasn't skipping pages in annoyance either.
Bottom Line: Not a terrible read, but not the best hockey-themed romance out there. Still, fans of the In The Zone series will want to put this one on their TBR pile.
