SUMMARY
Living the life of a celebrity isn't always as perfect as it seems.

Katherine Dawson was born into a life of privilege as the heiress to an apparel dynasty. Between judging a reality TV competition for budding fashion designers and having been the face of her family's clothing line for most of her life, she's one of the biggest celebrities in her field.

When she becomes engaged to up-and-coming television producer Nathan Taylor, she appears to have it all. To any outsider, she has a picture-perfect life, so when Katherine leaves her groom-to-be at the altar and disappears, the tabloids are full of speculation over her sudden departure.

Fleeing New York to hide out in Seattle, she quickly finds that living the life of an heiress in hiding isn't as easy as she thought, especially after she meets a magnetic writer named Royce Reynolds. In her new life on the West Coast, she struggles to keep her anonymity, and experiences a relationship with a man who wants her for the person she is, not the celebrity she used to be.

LIFE OF PRIVILEGE was unfortunately a very dull and lifeless read that did nothing for me.

Runaway fashion house heiress Katherine Dawson has had enough of her insane, puppet-like life with her mother pulling the strings, so she leaves her successful fiancé at the altar in NYC and heads to Seattle to live incognito with a friend of her grandmothers'. She meets struggling writer and sometimes nude art model Royce Reynolds and has no clue how to act, as her whole life has been scripted and now she's on her own. But eventually Katie finds her groove with the help of her crazy hot writer, starting to build herself a life in Seattle. Eventually, she'll be found out, but for now, she's just going to focus on today.

LIFE OF PRIVILEGE is a book in the What's Her Secret? series of novels featuring women with secrets by a variety of authors. I liked the concept of this book, but it really didn't translate to the page for me, unfortunately. The writing was very dry and unexciting, and I found myself easily distracted and uninterested in this "poor little rich girl" story. Katherine/Katie was justifiably anxious when she leaves her old life in NYC for the obscurity of the west coast, but I just couldn't empathize with her or connect to her character in any way. Royce was also very a boring character, and together the two of them made for one very LONG book. They had no chemistry whatsoever, it felt like two friends hooking up rather than some hot and heavy romance. On the flip side, the sex was raunchy and erotic, totally the opposite of the distinct lack of passion between the two of them out of the bedroom. It made my eyebrows raise in consternation more than once, as I wanted to see some sort of consistent connection between the two.

Bottom Line: Once again, I'm disappointed in the quality of a book in the What's Her Secret? series.
