A Pleiades witch has just one man that is meant to be her soulmate. Jennifer is sure she has finally found him. She just has to play a dangerous game to win his affections. She also has to rely on another man to help her in this game. She doesn't know that he intends to be the real winner in the game of love.

This is the third book in the Keepers of the Veil series by Zoe Forward, featuring the Pleiades witches being matched with their soulmates. There are seven Pleiades witches and they are hereditary witches with the powers passing down from the mother to her oldest daughter at the time of her death. There is a Greek mythology component to the stories in that these powers of protection were granted to their ancestors who were Goddesses. While each book can be read as a stand-alone, I would recommend you read them all in order to fully understand the storyline and be introduced to the characters that have roles in later stories as well.

Jen Marcos is sure she has finally met the man selected for her by the Goddesses. He has requested she participate in a game show that is like Survivor if she wants a relationship with him. Jen is not an outdoor enthusiast, and has no experience in that arena, but she is determined to win his affections. The other problem is that the show is featuring only couples on this edition. She is running out of time to be on the program when she realizes that former spy Nikolai Jovec would be perfect for the job. While she may be attracted to Nikolai, and even thought he might be the one for her at one point, he hasn't expressed interest in pursuing a relationship with her. Jen is determined to get her man and won't listen to anyone that warns her of the danger.

Nikolai Jovec has lived a very dangerous life. His brother inherited the family role which is associated with collecting souls for Hades and it was suspected for many years it would be his next if his brother failed to have a child. Now that his brother is mated to a Pleiades witch, it seems like his future is more his to determine. He knows Jen is his destined soulmate but has been afraid for her safety. He is in danger and she would be too if she was identified. When Jen makes him the offer to join her for the show, he can't convince her to change her mind but he does have some requirements of his own. Nikolai is a sexy guy with a strong protective streak and definitely my kind of guy.

Jen and Nikolai have great chemistry. They are a fun and sexy couple that find it hard to keep their hands off each other. Considering their strong attraction, it makes it hard to understand why she thinks another man is actually her destiny. One of the requirements on the show is that the contestants not engage in sexual activity and that is probably the hardest rule for these two to follow. The danger is intense which gets their adrenaline running. Nikolai is definitely a rule-breaker and does not find it very difficult to convince Jen to work around some of the rules, too.

While the romance is a big component of the story, the storyline is very action-oriented as well. There are many dangerous tasks that the couple face on the show as well as other challenges by their enemies. People they care deeply about are also endangered. They really have to push themselves harder than they ever have in order to survive, much less try to win the show. I enjoyed how Nikolai challenged Jen and encouraged her to take on new challenges. He may have been very concerned about her safety but he valued her abilities. Jen seemed pretty immature in the beginning of the story and really seemed to grow as she pushed herself. I definitely found myself liking her more as the story went along.

The Keepers of the Veil series is about seven witches that have been given great powers. Each of them must find the mate selected for them so they can have a daughter to take on their role at their death. They are supposed to recognize this mate but sometimes it is not so clear. Jen is convinced she has finally identified her mate but Nikolai knows he is actually the one for her. There is plenty of action and romance as they battle for their lives. They engage in a dangerous contest which brings them closer to each other but also brings their enemies close too. The series is a good fit for those who like a lot of action along with their paranormal romances.
