Dodging Eros is one story told in three layers.
In "I. Target Practice" Frederick Maxwell is the small town fire chief of Darlingfield, Virginia. He's the hometown surly boy who left and returned years later. Danya Fullerton is the hometown good girl who stayed local to run her family's bakery. As the youngest sibling who was a sickly child, she's always been protected and pampered. Darlingfield adores her culinary gifts. It puts her in conflict with Richard Wendenthrall III, current head of The Fellowship. She survives arson murder attempts, which Rick is investigating. The Fellowship's hub of illegal activities is revealed.

All chapter headings refer to archery with allusions to the menacing aspects of being struck with Cupid's arrow.

In "II. Gun Shy" Monica Fullerton is a woman who has loved and lost one agent and resists giving love a second chance with Benjamin Plaff. He was abandoned as a young child, and is now a career federal agent who has loved Monica from afar for years. He gets seriously injured, which gives him an opportunity to seduce Monica while she nurses him back to health. Monica is the middle sibling and professional bodyguard turned personal security consultant who is fiercely protective of her friends and family, especially Danya. Ben's two young goddaughters are the only eye witnesses to a crime that's committed by a prospective partner with The Fellowship. Chapter headings refer to the handling of firearms.

One man's ability to see in the dark saves a woman and her children in "III. Night Vision." Laine Descartes is the forsaken daughter of the wealthy Descartes family. With her young niece and her own baby boy, Laine's on the run from her powerful brother-in-law, who's fending off a hostile takeover of his company by The Fellowship. Warwick Fullerton is a professor and civilian hostage negotiator.
