Cassie Jonsson is a pretty blonde police officer in the small town of Winslow. She has never traveled and has given up on love, settling for an affair with a married co-worker. As the only woman, she is often given the odd jobs, in this case checking out an old house the locals believe is haunted because the owner hung himself in the barn. The McAllister house is indeed haunted, but not by a ghost. Prophet is a living, breathing, ruggedly handsome former vet, a drifter whose life is in limbo. He awakens something primal in Cassie, a boundless desire that blinds her to the dangers both psychological and physical of bedding a stranger, even one as beautiful as Prophet.

I know I shouldn't but for some reason I couldn't help myself
Cassie is a police officer, who being the only woman on the force always got the tasks no one else wanted to do, got assigned to check out an old house which locals believed was haunted since things have been happening there when no one was supposed to be around.
When she arrived at the old McAllister house she found it was being haunted by a former veteran who had fallen on hard times and is now a drifter. By all rights Cassie should have arrested him as a trespasser on the spot, but something this time caused her heart to rule her mind.
There was something about Prophet which intrigued her, something which drove her ever closer to him. It didn't matter any that this guy was demandingly handsome, which probably caused her to drop her basic instincts and succumb to her inner sexual desires and forgo all the dangers of getting into bed with a total stranger. To complicate matters Cassie is already in a love affair with a co-worker.
The combination of the imagery of the author's writing and the sex scenes made for an exciting reading experience and the reason I've given Ms. Ryan 5 stars for her endeavor here.
