BDSM, Contemporary Romance, Erotic Romance

Aric Calderwood discovers that a decade as a Dom is no match for his long-repressed feelings for a woman he's known since childhood. Owner of Insolence, a BDSM club, Aric's been immersed in the lifestyle. When his best friend, the normally cocky Ainsley Connor, turns up at Insolence and offers to be his sub for the weekend, Aric is shocked.

Ainsley's no submissive, but even so, Aric can't resist her. Once he touches Ainsley, Aric's control is overwhelmed by unrelenting lust and a flood of confusing emotion. The sex, both vanilla and kinky, is hotter than anything he's ever experienced.

But two days of Ainsley in his bed, at his command, changes everything between them. He can't go back to just being friends. The intimacy he shared with Ainsley shows Aric what he's been missing in his life and he realizes that regardless of whether she's submissive or insolent, all he wants is her.

A Romantica® contemporary erotic romance from Ellora's Cave

Publisher's Note: This book was previously published elsewhere in 2011, but has been significantly revised and expanded for EC.

‘Don't judge a book by its cover' is the age-old proverb that is proven accurate between the pages of INSOLENCE.

Aric and Ainsley have been best friends since childhood. Aric has always been attracted to Ainsley but has never acted upon his feelings. When they were younger, Aric was too afraid of messing up their friendship. Now that they are older and Aric has discovered his need to Dominate, he knows he can't be with Ainsley because she is strong-willed and stubborn--far from submissive. What Aric doesn't know is that Ainsley feels just as strongly for him; so strongly that she is willing to squash her cocky, commanding personality to spend time with Aric in the bedroom. The physical and emotional discoveries that the two make during a weekend together will forever change both of their lives.

This story was sweet, and steamy, and emotional. Perfect. The author captured what so many others miss in a short story plot development. Often times I feel unsatisfied with stories as short as this because the story feels forced and rushed. In this case the author did a great job giving back story and making me feel the emotional connection between these two characters.

I cared about the characters and was rooting for them to find happiness. I also really enjoyed that the lines of the Dom/sub relationship were quite blurry; it felt more real to me that way. Someone as strong and confident as Ainsley isn't going to fall perfectly into the role of sub. Aric understands that and is flexible with the rules! I enjoyed this story very much.
