KINGDOMS WILL RISE AND FALL FOR HER...
"Cat" Catalia Fisa lives disguised as a soothsayer in a traveling circus. She is perfectly content avoiding the danger and destiny the Gods-and her homicidal mother-have saddled her with. That is, until Griffin, an ambitious warlord from the magic-deprived south, fixes her with his steely gaze and upsets her illusion of safety forever.
BUT NOT IF SHE CAN HELP IT
Griffin knows Cat is the Kingmaker, the woman who divines the truth through lies. He wants her as a powerful weapon for his newly conquered realm-until he realizes he wants her for much more than her magic. Cat fights him at every turn, but Griffin's fairness, loyalty, and smoldering advances make him increasingly hard to resist and leave her wondering if life really does have to be short, and lived alone.

An epic, sweeping novel of romance, magic, mythology and war, A PROMISE OF FIRE was simply awesome, even more so since it's Ms. Bouchet's debut novel!
Catalia from Fisa, aka Cat the Magnificent, is a soothsayer in a traveling circus, hiding in plain sight from those who'd want to trap her in a gilded cage and use her magic for their own purposes. And from her mother. When she lays eyes on the dramatic warlord Griffin from Sinta, she knows her life is about to change. Griffin and his cronies in Team Beta, Carver, Flynn and Kato, kidnap Cat, and despite her initial hatred and fury, she finds herself enjoying the camaraderie the team develops. The Gods and fate may be conspiring to keep Cat and Griffin together, but Cat will fight it with everything she's got in her. Even if she really doesn't want to. Kind of. Can Griffin win Cat over or is she destined to die before he has the chance?
I absolutely adore Greek mythology, so this book captivated me from page 1. Filled with magic and vivid and colorful descriptions, A PROMISE OF FIRE had me at hello. Cat was FIERCE, kicking ass and taking names all over the place. She meets Griffin, and her whole worldview changes, though her fighting spirit doesn't.
I'm not usually a huge fan of fantasy books, but A PROMISE OF FIRE transported me to another place and time and I'm HOOKED. I loved the camaraderie of the story, and of the magical time in general. I also love the surprising humor! Cat's inner monologue had me chuckling to myself over and over as she fought with herself to stay clear of Griffin's sensual clutches. The two of them had the kind of chemistry that singes the pages, and though there wasn't a lot of sex in A PROMISE OF FIRE, what was there was decadent and erotic and BIG, like the entire story.
I've read several reviews that call this an urban fantasy, but it's really high fantasy and ancient Greek fantasy, and I couldn't be happier about that. When the last page finally came and I realized that all of my questions were not going to get answered, I just about cried! The next installment in the Kingmaker Chronicles trilogy isn't it due out until 2017, so I have months and months worth of weeping to do!
Will Andromeda finally succeed in killing Cat? Will Griffin be able to conquer all of the realms? Will Poseidon, Hades and Zeus save Cat again? Just how much life force does Griffin have in him (wink wink, nudge nudge)?!?
Bottom Line: Grab yourself this awesome novel just as soon as it's available! Fans of any genre will love the well thought out story and vivid characters!
