- Book 3 of Wulfkin Legacy
The daughter of a sultan alpha, Selena Kurt agrees to an arranged wulfkin mating to protect her sister from a dangerous alpha from the enemy clan. To her surprise, her match is Marcin Ulf, the next in line for the Hungarian throne . . . and the wulfkin who broke her heart years ago.
Marcin is just as shocked to learn he'll be matched to the enemy's daughter and the woman he's never forgotten. Before they can be paired, however, they're drawn into a tournament where Marcin will compete to free his estranged imprisoned brother, while Selena battles for the life of another wulfkin alpha. Both intend to seize this chance to save those they're fighting for - even if it means facing off with one another just as their romance rekindles.
Will tribe loyalty triumph, or will they realize they're better off as a team before it's too late?

Being with him is dangerous to her heart and her health. He broke her heart years ago and she never got over it. Now, she is supposed to be his mate. With death threats surrounding them, can she survive long enough to forgive his betrayal?
Selena still feels the pain of his betrayal in her heart and in her hip where she was injured during their time together as teenagers. She loved Marcin and never understood why he did not come back for her. With tensions high between her pack and his family who rule over the area, she is forced to be his mate to unite the packs. Selena hopes for the best but fears she is only going to experience more pain and betrayal at his hands.
Marcin cared for Selena but his father demands his loyalty over all else. When he finds out a mating has been arranged with Selena, he wants to believe it can work but there are still secrets and fears of betrayal. He has never believed her claims that his family tried to kill her. With more attacks coming, his doubts about her and her family increase. His father, the Emperor, is more erratic than ever and he may have to choose just who he can save.
There are several earlier books in the series. I did not read them prior to reading this book. Earlier situations drive much of the action in this book so I think it would be beneficial to read them first. It would have increased my investment in the story to have already developed a connection to the characters who are at risk.
The best romances tend to have characters you can really connect with and understand how their fears and motivations determine their actions. Selena is easy to understand and is someone who tries hard to protect those she cares about and tends to be very open with her feelings. Marcin hides his feelings much more. He was raised in an environment where showing vulnerability is considering weakness. He has a hard time really embracing his feelings for Selena and tends to keep a wall between them. The addition of a prologue showing their earlier times together would have really added to the story and provided a foundation to their romance that was missing.
CLOAKED IN BLOOD is part of the Wulfkin Legacy series. This book starts with earlier characters in the series at risk so reading the other books would be of benefit to a reader. Selena and Marcin are used by their fathers to unite the territories and stop some of the violence. They wanted to be together years ago but the treacherous activities of others have kept them apart. While they both still have feelings for each other, there are many doubts and fears that keep them apart. It is a good read with an interesting storyline and intriguing characters. It is more focused on the action and background of the situation than the romance between these two characters.
I really feel that a prologue that showed us their earlier romance would have added greatly to the story. I do believe the book would be most appealing to someone who has read the earlier books and has an investment in the characters.
