Amalya Rivers longs to die and end her lonely existence—but it doesn't work out that way…
A former runaway turned criminal, Amalya is murdered and thrust into a treacherous world full of red-skinned, horned beasts under the control of the Demon Ruler, Abaddon, instead of enjoying peace and serenity like she hoped. But saving a young child from a certain brutal death in the last moments of her life has earned her a chance at salvation.
Elliott the Redeemer wants no part in saving another soul…
After one too many failures at redeeming lost souls, the nail-biting, self-pitying Elliott has had enough of his work and would prefer to live out his eternity on Earth drowning in bourbon. It doesn't matter that Amalya has grown black feathered wings signifying the good that still dwells within her. He can't risk failure again.
Amalya must save someone from her past in order to escape Abaddon's rule…
She has to prevent the now grown child she saved from committing murder or risk returning to Netherworld with Abaddon for good. She can't do it alone, though. Amalya needs the help of the angel sent to guide her, but their emerging love might not be enough to convince Elliott she's worth the risk.
Amalya loves her black wings. She knows she's meant to be an angel—and she will stop at nothing to prove it…

Amalya is at the end of the line. Lonely. Seriously, alone and in the middle of nowhere, she reaches out to her sister only to be rebuffed. Out of options, she accepts a ride from a stranger only to be murdered after committing one selfless act. That act alone becomes her salvation amidst a life of criminal activity and, more importantly, earns her, her black wings.
Except that Abaddon, the demon ruler of the netherworld has other plans. He wants her for himself but because of her selfless act, there's a timeline. If he can get her to agree to stay, she will become his. If not, once her time is up, she's free to go. Well…obviously things won't be as easy as that and if you want to know what happens, you'll need to read the story.
Likes: I liked Amalya. For one who seemed so lost, she seemed to accept things rather quickly, which might be a turn-off for some. At the same time, I also found her character petulant. Elliot is the epitome of frustration. An angel sent to the underworld to rescue a human. Of the different characters in the story, his appears to be the most fleshed out, so to speak.
Dislikes: There's a lot going on with varying points of view that got a bit confusing at times. I had to re-read some sections to make sure I was caught up. Also, the sex scenes seemed a bit rushed. With all the build-up, they seemed to end too quickly.
Overall, this is a busy story with a tremendous amount of information given. Like with most stories, there are certain aspects that I really enjoyed and others that either were over the top or dragged. But it's definitely a series that I will consider continuing with.
