SUMMARY
Rafe Yager (of CROOKED HOUSE, Book 3, Bloodmoon Cove Spirits Series) has settled in the small town of Bloodmoon Cove in Erie County with his beloved wife of more than a year and a half, Corinne. Rafe is a descendant of the Mino-Miskwi Indian tribe whose elders vanished during a ritual at their sacred place at the top of Bloodmoon Mountain. Overnight, all the men "of age" had disappeared without a trace. Rafe believes his ancestors ripped open a portal between the living and the dead, and now those spirits have flooded the mountain and the town. Rafe had his first vision when he was seven, seen his first ghost when he was eleven, and, no matter what he did to try to escape the spirit world, it followed him until he met Cori. Inexplicably, she's become a buffer for him. There are times he actually believes someday he won't hear the spirits at all.
But, given his former ghost hunting, Rafe can't put aside his paranormal past as easily as he'd like to. While he no longer hears the ghosts the way he used to, he has a vested interest in any unexplained activities and the one thing Bloodmoon Cove has more of than anything else is restless spirits. For the past few years, he's been following the trail of the law firm in nearby Grimoire. Umbra's legal work is above board and legitimate. Nevertheless, every road leads Rafe and Cori back to the insane explanation that Umbra caters to the dead who have unfinished legal business. Rafe never anticipates their quest will lead to Ancient Egypt and the sinister Thoth, scribe of the underworld and counterpart of Ma'at, the personification of justice…let alone the weighing of his own heart on the scale against the feather of truth.
